It only took one series for Cubs fans to fear another deadline disaster Cubs just exposed the deadline flaw they can't afford to ignore By Jordan Campbell | Share on Facebook Share on X Copy Article San Diego Padres v Chicago Cubs | Justin Casterline/GettyImages Share on Facebook Share on X Share on Reddit Copy Article The Chicago Cubs shuffled their bullpen around during their series against the Seattle Mariners this past week, but it wasn't that helpful. Out was Genesis Cabrera as he was designated for assignment on Saturday morning, following an ugly showing in Friday's loss, and back with the team was Nate Pearson. It only took Pearson one return appearance to remind Cubs fans why he was

6/21/25 Chicago Cubs Part Ways with Disastrous Veteran Reliever, Recall Triple-A Standout. The Chicago Cubs have announced a couple of significant roster decisions on Saturday morning. After some serious struggles over the last couple of weeks, the Cubs have designated veteran right-hander Genesis Cabrera for assignment. Chicago acquired Cabrera at the end of May after he was waived by the New York Mets, but things simply have not worked out for him with his new team. In nine Cubs appearances, Cabrera posted an ERA of 8.68 and just could not keep runs off the board.

5/30/25 New Cubs reliever just did something nobody else in franchise history has ever done. Genesis Cabrera made Cubs history when he came on in relief of Colin Rea Friday afternoon. Seeing left-hander Andrew Abbott for the second time inside a week, the Chicago Cubs' offense had no answers for the Cincinnati hurler on Friday.

5/28/25 Cubs Agree to Deal with Former Mets Reliever to Help Bolster Bullpen. The Chicago Cubs have landed some help in their bullpen. As first reported on Tuesday night by MLB insider Jon Heyman, the Cubs are signing left-handed pitcher Genesis Cabrera after he elected free agency following being waived from the New York Mets. Whether or not Cabrera immediately jumps to the big league roster or starts in Triple-A Iowa remains to be seen, but he has a good bit of experience with various Major League teams. This year, he was called up by the Mets earlier this month and made six appearances before they parted ways.

5/24/25 Mets cut ties with two key pieces as casualties of 13-inning marathon. The New York Mets were forced into some tough decisions after a 13-inning marathon loss to the Dodgers on Friday night. In the end, the Mets removed two players from their 40-man roster by designating them for assignment. Genesis Cabrera and Jose Azocar were the two players who were sent away from the big-league club. The Mets called up lefty Brandon Waddell and utilityman Jared Young from Triple-A Syracuse to take their place. Azocar only got in the long game as a pinch-runner. He's actually been semi-useful for the Mets, putting up a .278 batting average in the early going. Cabrera threw two great innings for New York against the Dodgers. He allowed just one hit and struck out two in a pair

5/01/25 How the Mets are handling their bullpen amid injuries, grueling schedule. For the third day in the row, the Mets' bullpen looked a little different. The Mets called up left-hander Genesis Cabrera and right-hander Ty Adcock from Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday and sent down left-hander Brandon Waddell and right-hander Chris Devenski. Waddell and Devenski had been called up before Wednesday's 4-3 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks, and both pitched multiple innings in that game.

11/29/24 Tom Brennan: "Let's Open to the Book of Genesis". Genesis in 2022 (source: Wiki) I have heard many a preacher during a message say, "Let's Open to the Book of Genesis". Genesis means "origin or beginning." Well, this is baseball, so what beginning are the Mets about to embark on with newly acquired Genesis Cabrera ? First of all, though signed to a minor league deal, one would speculate that as a 6'2" lefty reliever, he will be used by the Mets in 2025. In 2024 with the Blue Jays, he was in 69 games, threw 63 IP, and had a 3.69 ERA. Sounds great, right? Two "buts": But, why then, would Toronto let him go? But what might be points of concern regarding Cabrera? He only fanned 50 of 271 batters faced in 2024, while walking 29. Not great, there.

11/27/24 Former Blue Jays reliever lands on new team after being cut loose. It didn't take very long for former Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Genesis Cabrera to find a new home. The 29-year-old left-hander agreed to terms with the New York Mets this afternoon on a minor-league deal that includes an invitation to big league camp. Cabrera was originally acquired by the Blue Jays in July 2023 in a trade with the Arizona Cardinals that saw minor league catcher Sammy Hernandez head the other way.

7/16/23 Gorman, Burleson lead Cardinals over Nationals 9-6 for doubleheader split. The Cardinals had to wait a day to get the second half of the season started after rain interrupted their game against the Nationals in the third inning on Friday night. After losing 7-5 in 10 innings in the completion of the suspended game on Saturday, the Cardinals used a season-high 17-hit attack to post a 9-6 win over the Nationals in the night game at Busch Stadium. The first game was marred by the Cardinals' first three-error inning since 2017 as they allowed a total of four unearned runs. The second game offered some reminders of the first half as well with the Cardinals blowing a 4-0 lead before getting five consecutive hits with two outs to score three runs in the fifth, then adding two insurance runs that allowed them to hold off the Nationals, who scored twice in the ninth off Genesis Cabrera.

6/07/23 Cardinals, Genesis Cabrera get walked off in a loss to the Rangers after a late rally. Cardinals reliever Genesis Cabrera got the first batter of the ninth inning to ground out, but he did not record another out in the inning as the Texas Rangers rallied for their second walk-off win of the season. The Cardinals came back to tie the score in the eighth inning but lost their fourth in a row, 4-3, in the series opener at Globe Life Field on Monday night. After being swept in a three-game weekend series in Pittsburgh, the Cardinals now have lost six of their last seven games and have the National League's worst record, 25-36. Cabrera gave up a walk to Marcus Semien, a bloop single to Corey Seager just over the infield that third baseman Nolan Arenado couldn't catch then a single on the ground to left field by Nathaniel Lowe that drove in the winning run.
