The scoreboard may have favored Detroit in the Falcons' preseason opener, but the real win for Atlanta might have come under center, where Easton Stick made a strong case for a bigger role. The Falcons opted to sit all of their offensive starters in their first preseason matchup, allowing several reserves to make their case for roster spots. Veteran edge rusher Al-Quadin Muhammad was right in the middle of it. He nearly got a sack on the second play of the game and then got to Falcons quarterback Easton Stick two plays later. He finished with two tackles, a sack, a tackle for loss and a quarterback hit. Muhammad played 255 snaps on defense for Detroit last season with 3.0 sacks and four tackles for loss. Easton Stick has been given a long leash by the Los Angeles Chargers, for reasons no one can seem to figure out. The talk of the team's backup quarterback position took over preseason headlines when it was revealed that starting quarterback Justin Herbert had suffered a plantar fascia injury. As long as Herbert has been the team's QB, the backup position hasn't been a concern because, for the most part, it has literally been for a player to carry a clipboard.
