9/04/25 Who has the edge? Dolphins at Colts, to open a new season. When the Dolphins run: Running back De'Von Achane goes into his third season after taking on a big workload for his size in 2024. With veteran free agent signing Alexander Mattison lost for the year in the preseason and second-year tailback Jaylen Wright to miss multiple weeks at the start, rookie Ollie Gordon II could see significant work in his first NFL game, especially in short-yardage situations, down by the goal line and when Miami wants his power to complement Achane's speed.

8/12/25 Miami Dolphins will miss RB Alexander Mattison in short- yardage situations; who will step up?. Mike McDaniel said Alexander Mattison alone could not have solved the issues for a team that had the second-worst success rate in 2024 on third-and-1 situations.

8/08/25 Dolphins' Alexander Mattison puts positive spin on fumbling issues during joint practice. Alexander Mattison and the Miami Dolphins did not have a pleasant day during Friday's joint practice against the Chicago Bears. The team committed numerous mistakes throughout the session, especially Mattison and star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. The latter threw three interceptions while the former committed two fumbles, which could be a sign that the offense has plenty of room for improvement ahead of the 2025 NFL regular season.

8/04/25 Alexander Mattison turning heads?. Free-agent pickup enjoying a strong camp

If the coaches are listening to Tyreek Hill and looking for a replacement for De'Von Achane in short-yardage situations, keep an eye on veteran running back Alexander Mattison. Miami loves Achane and Jaylen Wright, and they drafted Ollie Gordon in the sixth round in April. But Mattison, the former Vikings and Raiders back, has opened a lot of eyes in camp and could be playing himself into a role. (ESPN.com - Dan Graziano)

FF Today's Take: This is the kind of news that virtually no fantasy manager wants to hear. Not only could it possibly put a cap on Achane's ceiling, but it would also make stashing Wright less meaningful. The odds are against Miami keeping four running backs on the roster, but it would say a lot about the backfield situation if the Dolphins choose to go in that direction.

7/25/25 Camp buzz is building fast around Ashton Jeanty for one unique reason. The Las Vegas Raiders had the worst rushing attack in the league during the 2024 NFL season, and it was not particularly close. Fortunately, the team made changes, as they parted ways with Alexander Mattison this offseason, and Zamir White is in danger of not making the roster. Jeanty is expected to step into a workhorse role immediately in Las Vegas.

7/01/25 Why Mattison Could Become Key Under-the-Radar Pick-Up. Alexander Mattison's one-year, $1.3 million deal ranks among Miami's cheapest offseason moves, yet the seventh-year back may help solve one of the offense's biggest flaws: short-yardage inconsistency. While the offense as a whole regressed last season, dropping from second to 23rd in yards per play, short-yardage struggles have been a steady issue under Mike McDaniel. At 5-11 and 220 pounds, Mattison brings a more physical profile than any back Miami rostered in 2024. Mattison, a 2019 third-round pick by the Vikings, has topped 130 rushing attempts in three of the past four seasons, including last year with the Raiders.

6/12/25 Raiders' best backup for Ashton Jeanty is someone fans completely forgot about. After having the league's worst rushing attack last season, running back was an obvious need for the Las Vegas Raiders this offseason. The prophecy tying them to Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty in the draft paid off with the sixth overall pick, and the rookie will clearly be the workhorse back in Chip Kelly's offense. The Raiders started to remodel their running back depth chart during free agency, swapping Alexander Mattison for Raheem Mostert.

5/18/25 Raiders predicted to cut ties with recent draft pick before regular season. The Las Vegas Raiders had one of the worst offenses in the league last season, and while the passing attack got a lot of attention, the running game was even worse. Las Vegas averaged 79.8 yards on the ground per game in 2024, which was the worst rate in the league last year by 12 yards per game (the New York Jets averaged 91.8). This offseason, the Raiders made massive changes to their running back room, allowing Alexander Mattison to leave for a new deal with the Miami Dolphins while Ameer Abdullah, who finished the year with Las Vegas, is still unsigned in free agency.

3/28/25 The Many Sides of New Dolphins Running Back Alexander Mattison. A running back who describes his running style as “downhill, fast and physical” has really no choice in the NFL but to play with a certain mentality. Alexander Mattison, the latest free agent addition to the Miami Dolphins running back group, understands that. “I definitely am not an aggressive person,” Mattison said in his first chance to speak with Dolphins reporters after his signing. In fact, Mattison at his core seems to be all about humanity, largely based on his own experiences.

3/23/25 Raiders predicted to solve running back woes by signing $8 million breakout star. The Las Vegas Raiders had an awful run game last season and still have a giant hole at the position entering the third week of free agency. Las Vegas' leading rusher from 2024, Alexander Mattison, remains available on the open market and so far the Raiders have only signed Raheem Mostert, who is set to turn 33 this year and is hardly a reliable starting option. Mostert joins a running backs room that also includes Sincere McCormick, Zamir White and Dylan Laube.

3/15/25 Insider confirms Raiders interest in Ashton Jeanty heading into 2025 draft. The Las Vegas Raiders are in the process of remodeling their quarterback depth chart, and the same is lined up to be done to the running back depth chart. Alexander Mattison is gone in free agency, essentially replaced by Raheem Mostert, Ameer Abdullah remains available as a free agent, Zamir White is somewhere on the trade block and Sincere McCormick is also under contract. The general devaluing of the running back position in the NFL has naturally extended to the draft.

3/12/25 How Raiders Can Solve Their Most Pressing Issue. The Las Vegas Raiders have struggled to run the ball for most of the past two seasons. Jacobs returned to a new quarterback and offensive linemen, leading to a subpar season for all involved. With White and Alexander Mattison carrying the ball for most, the Raiders finished last in rushing yards, signaling a more significant problem.

3/05/25 Raiders named prominent suitor for Najee Harris with Steelers' exit inevitable. With Alexander Mattison and Ameer Abullah as free agents, Zamir White believed to be available should anyone want to trade for him, Sincere McCormick seemingly inconsequential and Dylan Laube an unknown quantity, the Las Vegas Raiders are definitely in the market for a running back. As free agency has neared it's been easy to tie the Raiders to free agent running back Najee Harris, should he leave the Pittsburgh Steelers.

2/28/25 Cowboys $6 million playmaker predicted to end Dallas tenure for Raiders deal. When talking about the 2024 season of the Las Vegas Raiders, it would be much easier to point out what went right than what went wrong. No team collected fewer rushing yards than the Raiders in 2024, and only four teams had fewer rushing touchdowns. Alexander Mattison and Ameer Abdullah are headed for free agency, which leaves Sincere McCormick and Zamir White as the top options currently on the roster. The Raiders will almost certainly add to the position, either in free agency or the draft, or both.

2/25/25 Alexander Mattison Praises Raiders HC Pete Carroll. The Las Vegas Raiders offseason has gone well so far this season, brining in multiple new faces to lead the young Raiders back to glory as soon as 2025. After a disappointing season on paper, the organization has truly taken their rebuild to the next level. The Raiders 2024 leader in rushing yards Alexander Mattison's fate in Las Vegas still hangs in the balance, but one thing that doesn't is his opinion on new Raider head coach Pete Carroll. In a recent interview with TalkSport End Zone, Mattison revealed his feelings surrounding the legendary coach.
