9/09/25 Padres' Michael King set for latest return vs. Reds. Michael King acknowledged he rushed his comeback last month from a nerve issue that caused problems with his pitching shoulder, leading to knee inflammation that landed him on the injured list for another month. The San Diego Padres right-hander didn't hurry his latest rehab, which he hopes will climax with a successful return to his team's chase for championships in October. King will take the ball Tuesday night as San Diego tries to clinch a series win against the visiting Cincinnati Reds in the teams' three-game set. The Padres won the opener 4-3 in 10 innings on Monday and have three victories in a row.

9/08/25 Report: Padres RHP Michael King (knee) set to face Reds. September 8 - San Diego Padres right-hander Michael King is set to return Tuesday, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported, marking just his second appearance in four months. King, 30, originally missed time with a shoulder injury and returned Aug. 9 for a two-inning start against the Boston Red Sox before going back on the injured list with a knee issue. King (4-2, 2.81 ERA in 11 starts) is expected to start at home against the Cincinnati Reds in the middle game of a three-game series. That rotation spot had been occupied by left-hander Nestor Cortes, who is out with a biceps strain. In seven major league seasons with the New York Yankees (2019-23) and Padres, King is 30-28 with a 3.16 ERA in 157

9/04/25 Padres Manager Doesn't Expect Michael King to Save Struggling Rotation. San Diego Padres manager Mike Shildt stated Michael King's return to the rotation is near, however raises a lot of questions as the season comes to a close. King has been on the injured list for a majority of the season, originally landing on the injured list with a pinched nerve towards the end of May and returning to the IL after just one start with left knee inflammation. King allowed two runs in two innings in his only start between his stints on the injured list. Before his injury, King was far and away the Padres' best pitcher this season with a 2.59 ERA through his first 10 starts.

8/29/25 Padres' Michael King set to throw another simulated game. It has been a struggle for Michael King to stay off the IL this season. In late May, he was placed on the 15-day IL with right shoulder inflammation, which was later revealed to be an issue with his thoracic nerve that kept him out for over two months. After returning and making just one start, the righty was placed on the IL again, this time with left knee inflammation. King has been throwing simulated games, with his most recent one being last Saturday, where he threw 44 pitches during a three-inning span, via CBS Sports.

8/25/25 Padres' Michael King Reveals What Will Make Up For Lost Season. San Diego Padres starting pitcher Michael King spoke about how he could make up for the time he has missed with injury during the 2025 season. King is currently serving his second term on the injured list this season, and missed nearly all of summer on the IL. The Padres first moved him to the IL after scratching him from a start May 24 against the Atlanta Braves. Unfortunately for the Padres, he had to return to the injured list just five days later, this time with inflammation in his left knee.

8/23/25 Yankees Could Reunite With Padres Pitcher. The New York Yankees will have some cash to spend this winter, per usual, and perhaps they could target a former pitcher of theirs who has developed into a frontline starter over the past few seasons. While running through the top 10 impending free agents, MLB.com's Mark Feinsand listed the Yankees as a potential landing spot for San Diego Padres right-hander Michael King alongside his incumbent club and the Toronto Blue Jays. "King has quietly emerged as one of the game's top starters since making the move from the bullpen, posting a 2.92 ERA in his two seasons in the Padres' rotation," Feinsand wrote. "The right-hander has been limited to 11 starts this season due to a nerve impingement near his shoulder, but assuming he returns and shows that he's healthy, King -- who is expected to decline his $15 million mutual option to become a free agent -- should be one of the most sought-after arms during the offseason."

8/19/25 Padres' Michael King Provides 3-Word Update on Knee Injury. The San Diego Padres are in a bit of a skid after dropping their fourth straight game. After being swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers and dropping out of the first-place spot in the NL West, the Friars fell to the San Francisco Giants to kick off a four-game set at Petco Park. Although things seem bleak at the moment, there is an encouraging update regarding right-hander Michael King. After missing nearly three months on the injured list dating back to mid-May with a nerve impingement near his shoulder, King found his way back onto the IL after just one outing, citing left knee inflammation as the reason for his absence.

8/18/25 Padres' Michael King Breaks Silence on Surprise Injury. The San Diego Padres are locked in an intense divisional battle with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and if the Friars want to secure the division, starting pitcher Michael King will need to get healthy. King got scratched from his last scheduled start on Friday, a game which the Padres lost to the Dodgers 3-2. San Diego gave up only two runs in the first six innings, a solid result from a bullpen game.

San Diego Padres starting pitcher Michael King landed back on the 15-day injured list on Thursday, and spoke about when he believes he will return from IL. 8/15/25 Former Yankees Pitcher Suffers Knee Injury. A former New York Yankees pitcher is heading back to the injured list after returning from a long stint on it last weekend. Per MLB.com's transaction log, the San Diego Padres placed right-handed starter Michael King on the 15-day IL with left knee inflammation on Thursday. King was reinstated from the 60-day IL with a shoulder injury last Saturday. King was transferred to the 60-day IL on July 7, but that move was procedural in nature rather than signaling that he had suffered a setback.

8/12/25 Padres Notes: Friars Officially Release Veteran, Michael King Contract Prediction, Fernando Tatis Holding Back. The San Diego Padres beat the San Francisco Giants, 4-1, on Monday, netting the team a major divisional victory amid the tight National League West race. In other news, the Padres recently released veteran third baseman Mike Brosseau, who spent the entire season with Triple-A El Paso. Brosseau did not make the major league roster, never impressing enough to merit a promotion. He was on a minor league deal with San Diego. Additionally, a baseball insider issued a prediction on starting pitcher Michael King's new contract that he will get during free agency. They predicted a massive nine-figure deal for King, who is in his physical prime and specializes as a pitcher who gets outs in multiple ways.
