8/22/25	Four things the Bears did right and four wrong against Kansas City. Backup quarterback Tyson Bagent rallied the Bears from a 17-point deficit, culminated by an 87-yard drive to a TD with no timeouts for a 29-27 win over Kansas City to close preseason. Bagent's play in the second half and that of receivers like Jahdae Walker, Tyler Scott and tight end Joel Wilson made it all possible, after Caleb Williams initiated the comeback with a jump start in the second quarter. A late strip sack by Daniel Hardy couldn't have hurt his roster bid and it also made possible the comeback. "The guys came out, they played hard," coach Ben Johnson said. Although Sunday's preseason game featured a play weighing down heavily against tackle Braxton Jones, Bears offensive coordinator Declan Doyle still sees it as a battle and not Ozzy Trapilo's job to lose. Then again, he also added, "I think that, yeah, I think that they're starting to separate themselves each other," Doyle said. Separation doesn't seem to indicate a race being as wide open as it was before Sunday's Bears tie. If the Bears are entertaining thoughts about going with two quarterbacks on their roster rather than three, it comes down to a difficult choice. Or they could be cutting possibly the brains of the quarterback room and a potential starter at some point in Tyson Bagent. 6/25/25	More Chicago Bears QB criticism of past staff but not from Caleb Williams. Tyson Bagent normally holds little back when talking about himself or football and continues in this manner even in a new coaching regime. The backup Bears quarterback managed to fire back at the past coaching regime of Matt Eberflus in a manner more subdued than the criticism Caleb Williams with his film-watching comments in the coming Seth Wickersham book, but still communicated clearly how he felt during an interview in a place where he might be expected to hold back a bit—the Bears' website. Talking with the Bears broadcast team of Jeff Joniak and Tom Thayer on the Bears Etc. podcast, Bagent had no problem marveling at the improvement in coaching he's getting. 5/08/25	Bears to look at 'aging' former Georgia QB in rookie camp tryout. The Bears are no strangers to undrafted quarterbacks making their roster. Undrafted Division II QB Tyson Bagent remains their backup going into his third season, although he'll definitely receive a challenge now from veteran NFL backup Case Keenum. Austin Reed was with them all last year on their practice squad after he signed as an undrafted free agent and is on the 90-man roster now. Chicago will look this weekend at yet another undrafted QB when Elon's Matthew Downing takes part in rookie minicamp, but only on a tryout basis. 3/03/25	Tyson Bagent's coming Bears challenge from draft and free agency. Tyson Bagent has had two years backing up the Bears starting quarterbacks, and it's safe to wonder whether he'll get a third. When the head coach is a former offensive coordinator with an aggressive mindset, it's not too difficult to see Bagent being challenged by another passer when offseason work begins. Ben Johnson had a strong-armed quarterback in Jared Goff and will again with Caleb Williams, so expecting he would want a backup with arm strength questions seems unlikely. 10/24/24	Bears Turn Tyson Bagent Loose Against Defense for Mobile QB Look. Tyson Bagent has become "Jayden Mariota." Whether that's enough to help prepare the Bears defense for a Commanders quarterback who becomes the extra ball carrier in the backfield isn't known, but at least he's fairly mobile. Jayden Daniels' status for Sunday's Washington Commanders game against the Bears is in doubt due to a ribs injury but the Bears need to be ready either way for a quarterback who can run. Marcus Mariota ran 11 times last week while replacing Daniels after the injury, and the running quarterback look for the Bears defense is coming from Bagent on the scout team.
