Thompson of The Boston Globe. The sixth-year defensive back is a particularly interesting case.

8/10/25 Patriots hold final training camp practice open to public, working on red zone before heading to Minnesota. The New England Patriots held their 13th and final "open to the public" training camp practice Sunday at the Gillette Stadium practice fields in Foxboro. With sunshine and temperatures in the low 80s, nearly 8,000 fans were on hand for the two-hour workout. The Patriots were in shorts and shells. Here are some notes, thoughts and observations: Attendance: Not Practicing CB Christian Gonzalez (Head coach Mike Vrabel made it sound like he will make the trip to Minnesota, but won't take part in the joint practices with the Vikings Wednesday and Thursday) RB Lan Larison (placed on IR per @dougkyed after he was hurt injured in Friday's pre-season game against Washington) WR Ja'Lynn Polk (injured Friday's

8/09/25 Patriots Waiting on Final Update for Injured WR. — If New England Patriots wideout Ja'Lynn Polk wants to forget his rookie season, leaving the team's preseason-opening win early didn't help his chances to do so. Polk went to the blue medial tent late in the first half of the Patriots' 48-18 win over the Washington Commanders, before heading to the locker room for the remainder of the night. The 2024 second-round pick took an end-around from backup quarterback Josh Dobbs inside the 10-yard line and was brought to the ground hard. “No update right now,” head coach Mike Vrabel said postgame when asked about Polk's status.

8/08/25 Patriots Weapon Suffers Poorly-Timed Injury In Preseason Opener. New England Patriots wide receiver Ja'Lynn Polk seems to be snakebitten. Polk, who missed the beginning of training camp while recovering from offseason shoulder surgery, was dealt a brutal blow as he seemingly injured the same shoulder on his first touch in Friday's preseason opener against the Washington Commanders. Polk was looking to gain the edge on a carry in the red area, and was dragged down directly on the previously-injured shoulder. ESPN's Mike Reiss reported the second-year wide receiver, with a towel over his head, was taken to the locker room for further evaluation before halftime.

7/29/25 Embattled Patriots WR Logs TD In Training Camp Practice Return. Ja'Lynn Polk is under more pressure this summer than perhaps anyone on the New England Patriots roster. Polk, terrible as a rookie after being drafted as a second-round pick, missed the first three practices of camp due to a reported soft-tissue injury. It was bad news for a player who underwent shoulder surgery during the offseason and entered camp on the Patriots' roster bubble. “The Patriots did have a nifty play-action touchdown from (Drake) Maye to Ja'Lynn Polk,” Boston Sports Journal's Greg Bedard wrote in the “top play” section of his practice breakdown.

7/24/25 Patriots Insider Reveals Reason for Receiver's Absence. As the New England Patriots took the field on Wednesday for their first training camp practice of 2025, one player conspicuous by his absence from the action was second-year receiver Ja'Lynn Polk. With Polk absent from team drills for second straight day, more than a few eyebrows within Patriots Nation were raised regarding the 23-year-old's status. Fortunately, a Patriots insider was able to add some context for Polk's brief hiatus from team drills. “I'm told [Ja'Lynn] Polk passed his initial physical, then later had what is considered minor muscle tightness, so playing it cautious early,” per ESPN's Mike Reiss.

Brian Hines of Pats Pulpit reported the absence on social media. The team has yet to provide a reason why the second-year wideout did not take the field. While Polk is not listed on the physically unable to perform or non-football injury lists, his offseason shoulder procedure may offer some context.

7/19/25 Forgotten Patriots wide receiver issues strong statement to doubters. New England Patriots second-year wide receiver Ja'Lynn Polk refuses to let a disappointing rookie season ruin his expectations for the future. The deck is stacked against him with Mike Vrabel taking over as the new head coach and de facto decision-maker for the Patriots. There are no ties to the 2024 second-round draft pick for Vrabel, like there would have been for former Patriots coach Jerod Mayo. Polk has been recovering from shoulder surgery, which limited his availability in the spring practices.

7/12/25 Patriots Embattled WR Fires Off Pointed Message. The New England Patriots' receiving corps is going to look a heck of a lot different heading into 2025, which could spell bad news for some of the team's holdovers. Take second-year wide receiver Ja'Lynn Polk, for example. The Patriots selected Polk in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft and were expecting him to be a big part of the offense during his rookie campaign, but he managed just 12 catches for 87 yards and a couple of touchdowns. As a result, the University of Washington product could be on the chopping block going into the new season, and a strong training camp performance is probably needed from him in order for him to carve out a role on New England's 53-man roster.
