8/21/25 Former Braves Starter Continues Turnaround with Tigers. It seems no matter how deep into his career he goes, Charlie Morton finds a way to be, or return to being, a key cog in a rotation. In his start for the Tigers on Wednesday, the former Atlanta Braves mainstay pitched six innings of two-run ball against the Astros, allowing three hits and three walks while striking out eight. Six of his strikeouts came on the curveball, and two came on the sinker.

8/20/25 How Astros finally ended historic 31-inning scoreless streak. The Houston Astros are mired in a brutal slump. Entering Wednesday's series finale against the Detroit Tigers, Houston had been shutout in three straight games and held scoreless in four of the last five contests. On Wednesday the Astros faced Tigers starter Charlie Morton, who kept Houston off the scoreboard through the first three frames, extending the team's scoreless streak to 31 innings. Finally, Mauricio Dubón ended the Astros' drought with a two-run home run in the fourth inning, per the Houston Chronicle's Matt Kawahara.

8/20/25 Tigers' age-defying Charlie Morton takes aim at Astros. The Detroit Tigers completed a deal for the second-oldest player in the majors just before the trade deadline. Thus far, Charlie Morton has given the rotation a boost. Morton, who will start the finale of a three-game series against the visiting Houston Astros on Wednesday afternoon, has delivered two quality starts in three outings for his new team. On paper, Morton produced his best start of the season on Friday.

8/14/25 Jack Flaherty's Struggles Could Derail Tigers' Postseason Push. As the Detroit Tigers continue to try to hold off the red-hot Cleveland Guardians in the American League Central, the team has to break out of its funk soon. It has not been a great extended stretch now for the Tigers. At the trade deadline, Detroit made some improvements with a focus on its bullpen, but this was a team that was starting to show some other issues. The starting rotation has been hit hard by injuries, and the additions of Charlie Morton and Chris Paddack should at least provide some depth.

8/12/25 2 moves Detroit Tigers must make after 2025 MLB trade deadline. The Detroit Tigers emerged from the trade deadline with a deeper bullpen on paper, but their handling of roster spots — and their reluctance to take bigger swings — has left room for improvement. While Scott Harris made several moves to bring in veterans like Charlie Morton, Kyle Finnegan, Rafael Montero, and Paul Sewald, his conservative approach avoided the kind of bold additions that could immediately push Detroit toward a World Series run. The post-deadline bullpen shuffle was also messy.

8/10/25 Tigers' Charlie Morton breaks Randy Johnson record with strikeout binge. Currently five games atop the AL Central, the Detroit Tigers have been a bit up and down as of late. Sunday's series finale against the Los Angeles Angels will decide who wins this weekend's three-game set. After a 6-5 win on Friday, the Tigers dropped Saturday's game 7-4 to the Angels. Despite that outcome, Detroit starter Charlie Morton surpassed Hall of Famer Randy Johnson with a ten-strikeout binge in his outing versus Los Angeles, according to MLB reporter Sarah Langs on X (formerly Twitter). At 41 years & 270 days, Charlie Morton is the oldest pitcher in at least the expansion era (1961) with 5+ consecutive strikeouts in each of consecutive starts Passed: 1999 Randy Johnson 35y 293d Last

8/10/25 Detroit Tigers Trade Acquisition Just Joined Nolan Ryan in Baseball History. Detroit Tigers trade acquisition Charlie Morton joined an incredible group in baseball history on Saturday night, but it wasn't enough as the Tigers lost 7-4 against the Los Angeles Angels. 8/09/25 Tigers pitcher frustrated after 'one of the weirdest outings' of 18-year career. Charlie Morton spent most of this year grinding to get back to pitching like himself again. The 41-year-old, two-time World Series champion had an ERA over 10 by the end of the first month of the season with the Baltimore Orioles and took until late May to notch his first quality start.

8/09/25 Veteran starters take center stage as Tigers, Angels meet. A lack of run support was the only disappointing aspect of veteran right-hander Charlie Morton's Detroit Tigers debut on Sunday. Morton delivered six quality innings against the Philadelphia Phillies, but the Tigers fell 2-0. Morton, the second-oldest player in the majors at age 41 (Justin Verlander of the San Francisco Giants is 42), will make his second start for his new team against the visiting Los Angeles Angels on Saturday.

8/06/25 Tigers' Recent Struggles Expose Significant Concerns in One Key Area. After a brutal start to the second half of the season, the Detroit Tigers have started to play a little bit better of late. For most of the first half of the year, the Tigers were considered to be the team to beat in the AL. The additions of Charlie Morton and Chris Paddack will provide them with some depth, but they might have some question marks in the rotation after Tarik Skubal in October. Bradford Doolittle of ESPN recently wrote about the biggest lingering concern for the Tigers being their offense.

8/05/25 Riley Greene Continues Defensive Masterclass With Incredible Catch vs. Phillies. The Detroit Tigers hit the road for the conclusion of their three-game road series against the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park on Sunday, sending Charlie Morton to the bump against Christopher Sanchez of the Phillies. The Tigers fell behind 1-0 in the second inning and kept up the fight as they looked to win their second game in three tries against their National League opponents on the road. The Tigers' outfield, namely star left fielder Riley Greene, continued his incredible play as he thrilled fans with a highlight reel catch during which he slid and narrowly avoided colliding with a teammate at high speed.

8/03/25 Charlie Morton to make Tigers debut in series finale vs. Phillies. The Detroit Tigers acquired Charlie Morton just before the trade deadline expired. Morton will make his Tigers debut when he starts the finale of a three-game series against the Phillies in Philadelphia on Sunday night.
