7/06/25 | San Francisco Giants Place Former Cardinal On IL. The San Francisco Giants are 4-8 over their last 12, including a sweep at the hands of the Miami Marlins, dropping two of three to the Chicago White Sox, splitting a four-gamer with the Arizona Diamondbacks, and splitting the first two against the Athletics in West Sacramento. The effort to turn things around got a little harder this weekend, as they had to place their high-leverage bullpen lefty on the IL. Former Stanford Cardinal Erik Miller, 27, was placed on the injured list on Saturday with a left elbow sprain, the team announced. Source: https://www.si.com/college/stanford/cardinal-in-th... |
7/05/25 | Ray throws second career complete game as SF Giants split series in Arizona. The Giants went into their series finale at Chase Field with a bullpen in need of a breather. Wednesday night's 6-5 win, 10-inning win required manager Bob Melvin use five relievers: Erik Miller, Spencer Bivens, Randy Rodríguez, Tyler Rogers and Camilo Doval. Doval, in particular, threw two innings for the first time in three years, blowing a save in the ninth before locking down a win in the 10th. Melvin would've been happy if Robbie Ray went seven innings. Source: https://www.chicoer.com/2025/07/03/ray-throws-seco... |
7/03/25 | Ray throws second career complete game as SF Giants split series. The Giants went into their series finale at Chase Field with a noticeably depleted bullpen. Last night's 6-5 win, 10-inning win required manager Bob Melvin to use five relievers: Erik Miller, Spencer Bivens, Randy Rodríguez, Tyler Rogers and Camilo Doval. Doval, in particular, blew a save in the ninth before locking down a win in the 10th, throwing multiple innings for the first time in three years. With that backdrop, Robbie Ray gave the bullpen the entire night off. Source: https://www.eastbaytimes.com/2025/07/03/ray-throws... |
6/08/25 | SF Giants walk off Braves in 10 innings, win third straight game since roster shakeup. There are no adjectives in the win-loss column. The Giants did not do the things conducive to winning baseball on Friday night against the Atlanta Braves at Oracle Park. Birdsong and Erik Miller each plunked a batter. 6/03/25 | Erik Miller Has Been Key for the San Francisco Giants Bullpen. After a disappointing 2024 season, the San Francisco Giants went all-in this offseason on finding success for 2025, starting with the hiring of Buster Posey as the organization's President of Baseball Operations. A major reason for the Giants' success this season has been the performance of the bullpen, which is ranked No. 1 in ERA with a 2.42 on the season. 4/05/25 | SF Giants' Miller brought back old pitch, and it's giving hitters new fits. Erik Miller hadn't thrown his sinker in about seven years when he took the mound at Oracle Park for his first offseason bullpen. Given how long the pitch had been dormant, he had no expectations for how the pitch would play. “There's certain guys that when you add pitches, it takes a long time,” said pitching coach J.P. Martinez. Miller, the lone lefty in the Giants' bullpen, has brought back an old pitch for his sophomore season. Source: https://www.marinij.com/2025/04/05/sf-giants-mille... |
3/08/25 | Could a second lefty join SF Giants' Miller in bullpen?. Left-hander Erik Miller made his first appearance of Cactus League play on Saturday at Scottsdale Stadium after dealing with a pair of setbacks, tossing a scoreless inning and striking out three batters as the Giants beat the Royals, 7-3. The Giants are still trying to determine whether he'll be the only lefty in their bullpen come Opening Day. San Francisco entered spring training with Miller as the only left-handed reliever on their 40-man roster. Source: https://www.eastbaytimes.com/2025/03/08/could-a-se... |
7/23/24 | SF Giants' reliever enters exclusive company with ownage of Shohei Ohtani. As a middle reliever, Erik Miller doesn't typically handle many media responsibilities. The group included a fair share of Japanese reporters, who track Shohei Ohtani's every movement. Of the 278 pitchers to match up against Ohtani at least four times, Miller is part of an exclusive group to strike him out each time. “That's not easy,” manager Bob Melvin said, putting it mildly. 7/22/24 | Teoscar Hernández has 3 hits, drives in 3 runs as Dodgers defeat Giants 3-2 for 4th straight win. Teoscar Hernández had three hits and three RBIs, including a go-ahead single in the eighth inning, and the Los Angeles Dodgers extended their winning streak to four games by beating the San Francisco Giants 3-2 Monday night. Hernández lined a base hit up the middle with two outs in the eighth to drive in Kiké Hernández, who got aboard with a leadoff double against Erik Miller (3-3). It was Teoscar Hernández's 27th RBI with two outs, tied for fourth-most in the National League. Source: https://www.middletownpress.com/sports/article/teo... |

6/29/24 | Giants' Erik Miller aims for strong opening act vs. Dodgers. The San Francisco Giants will turn to their recent staff ace -- the bullpen -- when they seek a second consecutive win over the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday. With just three healthy starting pitchers in his rotation, Giants manager Bob Melvin had to use 11 different relievers -- two in the role of an opener -- in 5-4 and 5-1 wins over the Chicago Cubs at the beginning of the week. Having seen the two victories mushroom into four of five, Melvin finds himself in the same situation at the end of the week, with bullpen games slated for both Saturday and Sunday. The Pirates have won four of their last five games. 4/22/24 | SF Giants activate Luke Jackson, seek consistency from their bullpen. In a tight game with a division rival, Erik Miller, Sean Hjelle and Nick Avila was not the bullpen combination Bob Melvin preferred to use Sunday afternoon. Miller surrendered the two decisive runs, and three scoreless innings tossed by Hjelle and Avila were moot in a 5-3 loss to the Diamondbacks. 3/11/24 | Latest round of cuts brings SF Giants' bullpen competition into clearer focus. The competition for the final spots in the San Francisco Giants' bullpen came into clearer focus Monday with the latest round of cuts. Seven pitchers, including lefty Erik Miller, were among the 11 players either optioned or reassigned to minor-league camp. Miller, 26, was described by manager Bob Melvin early in camp as “front and center” in the competition to join Taylor Rogers as the second southpaw in the bullpen but allowed two home runs in three appearances this spring. Melvin has expressed a preference to carry at least one more lefty in his bullpen, and by optioning Miller, that leaves 27-year-old Ethan Small, acquired from Milwaukee for cash last month, as the only remaining left-handed relief option on the 40-man roster. 11/14/23 | Giants protect Erik Miller, Kai-Wei Teng, and Trevor McDonald. It turns out that my Rule 5 predictions for the San Francisco Giants were completely accurate. Ahead of Tuesday's deadline to add eligible prospects before December's draft, the Giants protected a trio of pitchers: right-handed starters Kai-Wei Teng and Trevor McDonald, and left-handed reliever Erik Miller. Miller and Teng were two of the four names I predicted the Giants to protect, and I think the case or them is crystal clear. Miller has a high-90s fastball, and prior to his protection, the team only had three lefties, two lefty relievers, and one healthy lefty reliever (Taylor Rogers) on the 40-man roster. 1/10/23 | Dave Dombrowski has a plan, and he's executing it. The Phillies sent left-handed relief prospect Erik Miller to San Francisco in the deal, a player with a prospect ranking anywhere in the 10-15 range in their system. Miller was someone who had a chance to potentially win a bullpen job out of spring training, but now he’ll attempt to do so on the west coast. Dombrowski’s mission is clear: find players with high-end skills and acquire them in exchange for depth pieces. Source: https://www.thegoodphight.com/2023/1/10/23548274/d... |
11/16/22 | Phillies Leave Miller, De La Cruz Unprotected From Rule 5 Draft. The deadline to protect players from the Rule 5 draft has come and gone, and the Philadelphia Phillies have left two big names unprotected: Erik Miller and Carlos De La Cruz. The Phillies could lose either one in the Rule 5 draft next month. Exposing Miller to the draft, in particular, comes as quite a surprise.
