5/23/25 MLB team hit with bombshell lawsuit by ex-baseball star. Former MLB star Darin Ruf has filed a lawsuit against the Cincinnati Reds over a career-ending knee injury he suffered at the Great American Ball Park. Ruf damaged his knee crashing into a tarp roller near first base during a game for the Milwaukee Brewers in June 2023. On Thursday, Ruf filed a lawsuit in the Hamilton County (Ohio) Court of Common Pleas. It charges the Reds with negligence in failing to maintain safe field conditions, specifically citing the presence of the unpadded metal tarp roller.

1/13/25 Reese Kaplan -- Who Is Going to Be the Mets' DH?. Now I don't know Steve Cohen nor David Stearns personally and it is certainly entirely possible that they are taking this approach. When you read about key players coming off the board while the Mets have not reinforced their roster, well, the frustration and confusion are certainly reasonable reactions. Today let's examine on a positive front how the Mets can enhance their approach to the Designated Hitter which has pretty much been a black hole for the franchise since the National League adopted the rule that the American League has long embraced. It's not necessary to study in detail the numbers produced by the likes of Darin Ruf, Daniel Vogelbach and many others.

10/20/23 DJ Stewart had a great month for the Mets. Stewart was signed by the Mets in February as some minor league depth who had an outside shot to make the club as a fifth outfielder. It's hard to remember at this point, but this was the time of late period Darin Ruf, and so bench spots were at a premium. Because of that, he did not make his Mets debut until July 4. For his first 23 games as a Met, Stewart was a middling player at best, collecting only seven hits, two for extra bases.

8/22/23 Where will Mets find their DH in 2024? 5 early options to consider. The Mets' current wave of wins remains still seems like nothing more than a consolation prize in a lost season. All eyes are firmly set on the future and while Steve Cohen and Billy Eppler are adamant that they'll be World Series contenders in 2025 or 2026, there is little excuse to put together a playoff contender next year. Amongst the team's largest needs outside of an uncertain rotation is the designated hitter spot after two years of underwhelming production from experiments gone wrong. Darin Ruf never cut it and while he was shown the door early in the year, Daniel Vogelbach got most of this season and couldn't find a groove when it mattered most.

7/06/23 SF Giants trade deadline primer: What are their needs and who could fit?. Less than a month away from MLB's Aug. 1 trade deadline, front office phone lines are heating up. The Giants have a few paths they can take. Last year, president Farhan Zaidi offloaded a handful of veteran reserves — Darin Ruf, Curt Casali, Matthew Boyd — but didn't go full sell mode, opting to hold on to Carlos Rodón and Joc Pederson. In 2021, you'll remember, Zaidi made a surprise splash by acquiring Kris Bryant for a pair of prospects.

5/15/23 Ruf signs with Brewers after refusing minor league assignment from Giants. First baseman/outfielder Darin Ruf agreed to a one-year contract with the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday, two days after he elected free agency rather than accept an outright assignment to the minor leagues with the San Francisco Giants. Milwaukee will pay $541,935, a prorated share of the $720,000 major league minimum, and the Giants are responsible for the rest of Ruf's $3 million salary plus a $250,000 buyout of his contract's 2024 team option. San Francisco designated the 36-year-old for assignment on May 9. Ruf hit .261 with no homers and three RBIs in nine games with the Giants this season.

5/09/23 Giants vs. Nationals Gamethread. The San Francisco Giants have won their last two series, both against very good teams. But after a feckless loss to the Washington Nationals on Monday night, the Giants are in danger of dropping a series to a not very good team. But help is on the way. Prior to the game, the Giants made a flurry of moves . Darin Ruf was designated for assignment. Cal Stevenson was optioned. But the big news is who was called up: infielder Casey Schmitt, one of the top prospects in the organization, who gets an aggressive promotion after just 65 games above A-ball. Schmitt, who won the Minor League Gold Glove Award at third base in 2022 will make his MLB debut tonight, and will start at shortstop. The Giants have

4/27/23 Thursday BP: Happy Birthday J.D. Davis!. Good morning, baseball fans! We'd like to wish a happy birthday to J.D. Davis! I think it's fair to say that the San Francisco Giants won their trade with the New York Mets during last year's deadline, which saw Darin Ruf head to New York, and end up back in San Francisco in time to score runs against them last weekend. In return, the Giants acquired Thomas Szapucki, Nick Zwack, Carson Seymour, and J.D. Davis. It's Davis that we're here to talk about today, though, because it's his birthday! And he's having quite the season for the Giants so far. Not only is he batting .292/.342/.528 with five home runs and 16 RBI in 72 at bats, but he's having a defensive renaissance, as KNBR's Danny Emerson

4/25/23 Ex-Mets infielder lands on injured list. The San Francisco Giants have placed Darin Ruf on the 10-day injured list with right wrist inflammation. This was a corresponding move to activating outfielder Mitch Haniger off the injured list Monday. The Giants signed Ruf to a minor league contract earlier this season after he was released by the New York Mets.
