After three months at High-A Spokane, he's already won a Northwest League player of the week award and caught the attention of Baseball America writer Geoff Pontes, who included Thomas in a recent article highlighting 10 minor league hitting prospects and their underlying data for the month of June. 7/16/24 | 3 Texas Longhorns selected in 2024 MLB Draft. The Colorado Rockies selected Jared Thomas in the second round with the No. 42 overall pick, making him the first Longhorn off the board. Thomas, who played both infield and outfield for the Longhorns, had a tremendous sophomore season. He hit .349 with 16 home runs and 18 stolen bases to help guide Texas to the NCAA tournament.
