7/02/25 Red Sox Hurler Takes Hard Stance On Whether He Wants To Be Traded. It's been a tumultuous couple of years for Boston Red Sox pitcher Lucas Giolito. After a strong run with the Chicago White Sox from 2017 to 2022 that included his first All-Star appearance, Giolito was suddenly traded to the Los Angeles Angels in July 2023. Giolito went from a 4.09 ERA and 2.7 WAR before the trade to a 6.96 ERA and -1.2 WAR after the trade, which included a season-ending stint with the Cleveland Guardians after the Angels waived him in August. “It was crazy,” Giolito told MassLive's Chris Cotillo.

7/02/25 Red Sox's Lucas Giolito Takes Firm Stance On Potential Trade Out Of Boston. Lucas Giolito's career has been a bumpy ride over the last two years, and it's finally starting to level out. Giolito, once an All-Star with the Chicago White Sox, was traded to the Los Angeles Angels in July of 2023, then was waived and claimed by the Cleveland Guardians at the end of August. The contract once looked as though it would be a complete wash, as Giolito missed his entire first season in Boston due to elbow surgery, then pitched to a 6.42 ERA through his first seven starts this season. Giolito has pitched to a 0.72 ERA in his last four starts, dropping his season mark all the way down to 3.99.

7/02/25 As Red Sox starter says 'I don't want to be traded,' contract clause may keep him in Boston for 2026. The last time Lucas Giolito felt this good about the way he was throwing the ball was the first half of the 2023 season, when he logged a 3.45 ERA in 19 starts for the White Sox. Two years ago, Giolito switched teams twice in the season's final months, first when Chicago traded him to the Angels on July 26, then after six starts in Anaheim, when he was claimed by Cleveland on August 31. Moving around took its toll after seven years (and 162 starts) with the White Sox. A brutal second half — during which Giolito went through a divorce — included a 6.89 ERA with the Angels and a 7.04 mark with Cleveland.
