10/01/24 Bulk Of Texas Rangers Rebound Will Come From Looking Inward, Chris Young Says. The Texas Rangers will need to find pitchers this winter, just like nearly every other team in the league. The club has to replace free agents Kirby Yates and David Robertson at the backend of their bullpen and need to add several starting pitchers with Nathan Eovaldi, Andrew Heaney, and Max Scherzer free to find the highest bidder this offseason. As for the everyday lineup, however, the Rangers will primarily be looking inward to fix an offense that fell off a cliff in 2024 after leading the American League in most offensive categories during their 2023 World Series-winning season. "As I look at our identity in 2023, we were an elite offensive unit, and we obviously regressed this year and I think there's explanation for that regression," Rangers President of Baseball Chris Young said during an end-of-season press conference with manager Bruce Bochy on Tuesday morning.

9/20/24 Kirby Yates thinks he can keep pitching at a high level. Will it be with the Rangers?. The Texas Rangers — who've been eliminated from American League West contention and aren't far from the same fate in the AL wild card race — could've slogged through a busted title defense season with the same level of bullpen play that nearly kept them from competing for last year's championship. “I hate to think,” Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Wednesday when asked about the back end of his bullpen. Kirby Yates has made that a cautionary what-if instead of a harrowing reality. The right-handed reliever, in his first year with the Rangers, has been one of baseball's best closers and has anchored a bullpen that yielded a league-worst 31% save percentage last season.

8/17/24 Former Padres Pitcher on Brink of Major League History. Former San Diego Padres relief pitcher Kirby Yates is on the brink of joining an exclusive group in MLB history. Yates, who pitched for the Padres from 2017-20, currently holds a 1.02 ERA through 43 game appearances this season with the Texas Rangers. In MLB history, only 41 pitchers have pitched in 40 games or more while posting an ERA of 1.25 or lower.

7/26/24 Texas Rangers drop back-and-forth affair with Blue Jays, fall in walk-off fashion. Texas Rangers closer Kirby Yates has been as close to perfect as the once bullpen-strapped club could've hoped for after they signed him in the offseason. The 37-year-old right-hander finally slipped up a 6-5 loss to the Blue Jays that snapped the Rangers' five-game win streak. Related:The Texas Rangers got hot and are now buyers. 7/18/24 All-Star Closer Makes Sense for Mets if This AL Club Decides to Sell at Deadline. The New York Mets are in need of bullpen reinforcements and this potential acquisition would likely make a major impact. Texas Rangers All-Star closer Kirby Yates just appeared in Tuesday night's All-Star Game for the American League, and it's possible that he will be made available with the trade deadline approaching on July 30. The 37-year-old has had a stellar season for the Rangers, who are stuck in a hard place. As the defending World Series champions, Texas is 46-50 and five games back in the AL West.
