2/18/24 Tigers' Carson Kelly seeking a late career surge similar to his mentor, Yadier Molina. Catcher Carson Kelly, a second-round draft pick of the St. Louis Cardinals in 2012, was anxious to make a good impression. “It almost felt like he never slept,” Kelly said. Imagine having Molina, a future Hall-of-Famer who finished his career with two World Series rings, nine Gold Gloves, four Platinum Gloves and 10 All-Star appearances, leading the catcher's room in your first big-league camp. Imagine your first big-league manager being Mike Matheny, who had a 13-year career and won four Gold Gloves himself.
11/21/23 Detroit Tigers catcher Carson Kelly has 'fallen in love with process' of making adjustments. Carson Kelly, an eight-year MLB veteran, is returning to the Detroit Tigers in the 2024 season after his $3.5 million club option was picked up.
11/06/23 Tigers bringing back veteran catcher in 2024. The Detroit Tigers are bringing back catcher Carson Kelly in 2024. The Tigers exercised a team option on Monday that will pay the veteran $3.5 million in 2024 to serve as backup for starter Jake Rogers. The Tigers signed Kelly last August when Eric Haase was let go. Kelly, 29, is an Oregon native who was drafted out of high school by the St. Louis Cardinals in the second round in 2012.
8/31/23 Tigers look to build momentum, open series vs. White Sox. The Detroit Tigers rallied past the New York Yankees for a 4-3 victory in 10 innings on Thursday, ending their five-game losing streak as they prepare to begin a six-game road trip. "You always want to win, and getting this last one, going on the road, I think it's going to be good," catcher Carson Kelly said. "You're going to see that momentum go." On Friday, Detroit (60-74) will try to earn consecutive victories for the first time in nearly two weeks when it visits the Chicago White Sox, who have won three of five.
