1/04/25 Insider Throws Cold Water on Possibility Houston Astros Land Slugging Outfielder. A lot of things have been said about the Houston Astros this offseason. The Astros front office is confident the moves they made - signing Christian Walker and getting back Isaac Paredes and Hayden Wesneski - will still allow them to compete this year, while also adding a star prospect and opening up some more financial flexibility. Houston is projected to be over the luxury tax threshold once again, the first time owner Jim Crane would carry a payroll that high in back-to-back seasons. Without Tucker covering right field and in the lineup, Chas McCormick will be tasked with replacing his production.

12/29/24 Could Corbin Burnes Deal Prompt Houston Astros To Trade Framber Valdez?. It seems like the Houston Astros are content with the roster they have in place after handing star first baseman Christian Walker a three-year, $60 million deal to bolster that position during this championship window. While there are those out there who doubt the Astros can compete for a World Series title in 2025 because they traded away Kyle Tucker and are losing Alex Bregman in free agency, the organization is confident they are going to contend. During this dynastic run by Houston, they have largely destroyed their pipeline by trading away their top minor leaguers to bring in established Major League players who can help them win now. It was the smart thing to do at the time, but it's hard to have sustained success when the current crop of players age out or leave in free agency, so Brown has been tasked with making sure the farm system gets replenished.

12/23/24 Diamondbacks 2025 offseason roster moves tracker. The Arizona Diamondbacks have already lost key pieces from the 2024 squad and added to a 2025 bunch expected to compete for a postseason spot. D-backs first baseman Christian Walker reportedly agreed to a three-year, $60 million deal with the Houston Astros on Friday. A day later, the D-backs finalized a trade for Cleveland Guardians first baseman Josh Naylor. The D-backs could use the left-handed thump Naylor provides with designated hitter Joc Pederson reportedly headed to the Texas Rangers on Monday. Spring training games are a couple months away, and there is a lot more on the D-backs' plate this winter, but figuring out first base was a major step after losing Walker. RELATED STORIES Reports:

12/20/24 What Astros' Reported 'Advanced Talks' Could Mean For Red Sox. The Astros reportedly were nearing a deal with a free agent first baseman, which could bode well for the Boston Red Sox. Houston was in “advanced talks” with Christian Walker on a contract, according to Robert Murray of FanSided. The Athletic's Chandler Rome and Ken Rosenthal reported the sides were in “serious talks and progressing toward a deal,” so it seems like the Astros are committed to Walker. The Red Sox are not in the market for a first baseman, but they should be delighted if Houston locks up Walker.

12/18/24 Washington Nationals Receive Stellar Grade for Max Scherzer Mega Deal. The Washington Nationals were a team that many people were keeping an eye on coming into the 2024 offseason. With a talented young core in place, general manager Mike Rizzo spoke openly about it being time to spend some money. The team has a lot of needs to address, but natural progression from the youngsters and an established veteran or two being added to the mix would help them move forward in their rebuild. There are some impact bats that are still available, such as first basemen Christian Walker of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Pete Alonso of the New York Mets.

12/15/24 Yankees may face less competition for free-agent slugger, per MLB insider. The price for New York Yankees free-agent target first baseman Christian Walker was never going to be cheap, but it may be coming down a bit from some of the astronomical numbers that have been thrown out there, according to one MLB Insider. With the Seattle Mariners putting ace Luis Castillo into the trade marketplace chatter, The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal believes the chatter about them signing Walker is over-inflated.

12/12/24 Diamondbacks predicted to lose $66 million Gold Glover to Yankees. The Arizona Diamondbacks narrowly missed the postseason this year after winning the National League pennant in 2023. Three-time Gold Glove first baseman Christian Walker is a free agent and there are no guarantees he will return next season. Thus, Arizona may have some work to do in free agency in terms of looking for a first baseman. Will Leitch of MLB.com predicts that Walker will ultimately leave Arizona and sign a deal with the New York Yankees.

12/11/24 MLB rumors: Yankees gaining competition in Christian Walker free agency pursuit. While Soto's departure certainly stings, it could be viewed as a blessing in disguise as the Yankees now have the capital to sign multiple free agents, potentially building a more complete team. New York has a glaring need at first base and the team is reportedly prioritizing Christian Walker over Pete Alonso, who is also available this offseason. Several teams, including the Washington Nationals, have reached out to Walker, according to insider Robert Murray on X.

12/11/24 'Vengeful' Yankees predicted to nab Diamondbacks $72M slugger after losing Juan Soto. The Arizona Diamondbacks are up against a powerhouse opponent in their quest to keep one of their top sluggers. First baseman Christian Walker is a free agent, and the Diamondbacks would assuredly love to keep him around. Walker broke out late in his career and is entering his age-34 season, but he's averaging nearly 32 home runs over the last three seasons. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo raved about Walker in an interview on MLB Network on Tuesday, professing his desire to bring the slugger back to Arizona.

12/06/24 Diamondbacks unlikely to sign both Christian Walker, Joc Pederson. It is apparent the Arizona Diamondbacks' lineup will look a bit differently next season. Arizona Sports' John Gambadoro said on Thursday's Burns & Gambo there is no chance the D-backs re-sign both free agents Christian Walker and Joc Pederson. Walker declined Arizona's qualifying offer last month — the D-backs will receive a draft pick if he signs elsewhere — and he entered free agency ahead of his age 34 season with his best opportunity to cash in.
