5/31/25 Texas Rangers announce release of veteran outfielder Kevin Pillar. The Texas Rangers are moving forward without a veteran outfielder. The team announced the release of Kevin Pillar on Saturday. Pillar had been designated for assignment on May 25 when the Rangers officially placed Joc Pederson on the 10-day injured list and called up Alejandro Osuna. When the Rangers DFA'd Pillar, they had seven days to trade, release or outright the outfielder to the minor leagues.

5/27/25 Former Angels Outfielder Cut By AL West Rival. The Texas Rangers designated former Los Angeles Angels outfielder Kevin Pillar for assignment Sunday morning. The Angels signed Pillar after he elected free agency when the Chicago White Sox designated him for assignment in the 2024 season. 5/25/25 Blue Jays former star facing retirement after latest roster decision. One of the Toronto Blue Jays' best players of the 2010s might soon be looking at the end of his MLB career. Kevin Pillar, the brilliant defensive centerfielder with some sneaky pop, hasn't played for the Blue Jays since 2019, but his highlight reel still runs easily through the mind when recalling his days in Toronto. This weekend, Pillar was designated for assignment by the Texas Rangers. The next possible steps are that Pillar is traded, claimed off waivers, or clears waivers and either takes an assignment to Triple-A or asks for his unconditional release.

5/18/25 Rangers Make Multiple Key Roster Moves Ahead of Their Sunday Matchup With Astros. The Texas Rangers have been making a significant amount of roster decisions in recent weeks as they try to settle their lineup a bit and find the best possible combination of talent. Ahead of Sunday's matchup with the Houston Astros, they have had to make two more choices as the injury bug hits once again however. The four moves being made according to a press release from the team are Kevin Pillar being activated from the 10-day injured list, Caleb Boushley being recalled from Triple-A Round Rock, Cole Winn ending up optioned to Triple-A, and then Evan Carter heading to the 10-day injured list. Getting Pillar back is a positive for the team, as his fielding has been solid this season, and while his batting has been less than optimal at times, he has shown flashes of success.

5/14/25 Texas Rangers' Kevin Pillar begins rehab assignment with hot-hitting Double-A Frisco squad. Outfielder Kevin Pillar began what could be a brief rehab assignment with Double-A Frisco, going 1 for 4 in an afternoon 12-9 win over Corpus Christi of the Houston organization. Pillar, who has been on the IL since May 4 due to lower back inflammation, was the DH Wednesday. It's likely he'd play the outfield at least one game before the Rangers make a decision on activating him. Whenever they do make a decision, they are likely to have to make a potentially permanent choice on either Sam Haggerty or third catcher Tucker Barnhart.

5/13/25 With Kevin Pillar nearing return, Texas Rangers facing roster management decision. Outfielder Kevin Pillar, who is eligible to return from the injured list on Wednesday, could begin a short rehab assignment very soon, manager Bruce Bochy said. Pillar has been out since May 4 with lower back inflammation, but has recently ramped up his activity. Since Pillar, a right-handed hitter, has been out, the Rangers have purchased the contract of Sam Haggerty as their right-handed center field option. Haggerty hit leadoff and played center field Tuesday against Colorado lefty Kyle Freeland.

4/03/25 Former Angels Outfielder Takes Massive Shot at Halos After Joining AL West Rival. A former outfielder on the Los Angeles Angels recently made comments that do not paint his former team in the best light. Current Texas Rangers outfielder Kevin Pillar spoke to Kennedi Landry of MLB.com about how he was expected to retire at the end of 2024, but then inked a minor league deal in Texas that turned into an Opening Day Roster spot. Pillar spent time with two of the least-winningest teams in the league last season as the Halos lost a franchise record 99 games, and the Chicago White Sox finished with the most losses in MLB since 1900, at 121.

3/27/25 Kevin Pillar makes immediate impact in Rangers debut vs. Boston on opening day. The commute from Kevin Pillar's house in Argyle to his new workplace on Stadium Drive took more than an hour each of the last few days. “To end up in this chair,” Pillar said Thursday from the comfort of the cushy seats inside the Globe Life Field home clubhouse, “you've got to earn it.” Pillar, 36, signed a minor league contract with the Texas Rangers one month ago, was named to the opening day roster Tuesday and started in center field Thursday vs. the Boston Red Sox. Last year Pillar was cut midseason by the historically bad Chicago White Sox and ended his season with the last-place Los Angeles Angels.

3/25/25 Ex-Toronto Blue Jays fan fave reverses retirement decision and will play in MLB this year. Longtime Toronto Blue Jays centre fielder Kevin Pillar isn't ready to call it a career just yet. Citing he felt he still had more to give, he was able to ink a minor-league deal with the Texas Rangers that included an invitation to spring training. The man dubbed “Superman” during his time with the Blue Jays appears to be right in his belief that he had more to give, as it was announced today that he has cracked the Rangers' Opening Day lineup. Pillar spent parts of seven seasons with the Blue Jays, during which time he hit .260 with 55 home runs and 231 RBIs.
