2/06/25 Strike 3: The Colorado Rockies have a Kris Bryant problem. Owner Dick Monfort, who's been known to make overly optimistic preseason predictions, has held off on doing anything like that, but in a couple of recent public appearances, he's been upbeat, offering a hopeful message that revolves around a young core and a patient fan base. Rockies players and coaches have also struck an optimistic tone, including ringing endorsements of former National League MVP Kris Bryant, the guy with the $182 million, seven-year contract who's yet to play 162 games in a Rockies uniform while spending most of the first three years – 327 games to be exact – of his seven-year deal on the injured list. Bryant has been dealing with Plantar Fasciitis in his feet, rib contusions and oblique strains, plus arthritis in his back that is termed “chronic.”

12/18/24 Rockies' Kris Bryant: “I'm at peace with what I'm seeing” amid offseason quest to get healthy. Kris Bryant's sanctuary is the batting cage attached to his parents' home in Las Vegas. Bryant built it in 2014 as a present to his father, Mike, who first taught him how to hit and made a career out of teaching kids how to hit a baseball. Bryant used his $6.7 million signing bonus to give his father a piece of baseball heaven, including a $3,300 pitching machine. Mike named the place “The Bryant Man Cage.”

12/01/24 Two Former Chicago Cubs World Series Heroes Seen As Players With Worst Contracts. The Chicago Cubs are searching for ways to get back into World Series contention. It's been frustrating for Cubs fans. When the organization decided to pull the plug on the championship core by trading those players away, the hope was they would get enough young prospects back who would develop into Major Leaguers at the same time so they could repeat what happened in the past. Fast forwarding to now, there are two players from that Cubs roster, Kris Bryant and Javier Baez, who Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report lists as having the worst contracts in Major League Baseball, something this franchise is likely very happy they avoided.

11/02/24 Rockies Journal: Payroll dip is fine for now, but Colorado has money issues. It's a familiar refrain that Rockies fans throw my way. “Owner Dick Monfort is a cheapskate,” the disgruntled say. “Fans continue flocking to Coors Field, but he doesn't invest in the team on the field.” That criticism reached a crescendo recently when I reported that the Rockies' payroll would take a hit in 2025. The criticism isn't supported by the facts. However, it's more than fair to criticize how the Rockies have spent their money. And we're not talking only about the head-scratching, seven-year, $172 million contract they gave Kris Bryant before the 2022 season. Colorado's payroll has pretty much matched its mid-market status for several years. In 2018, their last playoff season, the Rockies'

9/28/24 Rockies Journal: Kris Bryant says “I'm not going to sugarcoat it, it's been terrible”. As another losing season for the Rockies draws to a close, Kris Bryant remains a problem, not a solution. Bryant says he knows what's at stake and understands why so many are disappointed. “I am trying to convey to you, and the fans, how awful I feel about this,” he said Friday afternoon in the dugout before the Rockies' hosted the Dodgers at Coors Field. Bryant was, by turns, emotional, determined, frustrated and optimistic.

9/26/24 Rockies' Kris Bryant makes honest 'crying' admission amid injury frustrations. It has been a rough few years for Kris Bryant since he signed a long-term deal with the Colorado Rockies, specifically on the injury front related to his back, and he did not hold back when talking about how he is dealing with everything related to that. “I'm not doing too good,” Kris Bryant said, via Thomas Harding of MLB.com. Bryant is still going through the process of recovering and is doing everything he can to get back healthy for the Rockies. Bryant was a star on the Chicago Cubs and was a huge reason they won the World Series in 2016.

9/14/24 Rockies' Kris Bryant dealing with harsh 2024 reality. The Colorado Rockies placed former National League MVP Kris Bryant on the injured list last month due to a back strain. It was the third time Bryant hit the IL in 2024 and his eighth trip to the injured list since signing with the Rockies in 2022. Bryant has missed 111 games so far this season entering play on Saturday. The 10-year veteran has missed a whopping 313 games in his three seasons with Colorado.

9/07/24 Kris Bryant “running out of time” to return to Rockies this season. Kris Bryant, who has struggled with injuries throughout his unproductive, three-year tenure with the Rockies, could be done for the season as he continues dealing with a chronic lower-back injury. Bryant, 32, has played just 159 games since signing a franchise-record, seven-year, $182 million free-agent contract in the spring of 2022. Bryant has not played since Aug. 6 and has been limited to 37 games this season, slashing .218/.323/.301 with two home runs. During his Rockies career, he's slashed .250/.332./.381 with 17 homers.

9/04/24 Rockies Mailbag: Why do pitchers rank last in strikeouts? Will Rox cut Kris Bryant loose?. Pose a Rockies- or MLB-related question for the Rockies Mailbag. Patrick, I moved to Denver a year ago, and this is my first season following the Rockies closely. One glaring deficiency I've observed is the complete inability of the Rockies' pitching staff to strike out batters. Heading into Tuesday night's game at Atlanta, Rockies pitchers ranked last in the majors with 943 strikeouts, and the Braves ranked first with 1,293.

8/21/24 Rockies Mailbag: Will Kris Bryant's future role diminish? Why play Jake Cave so much?. Pose a Rockies- or MLB-related question for the Rockies Mailbag. Is Kris Bryant stuck in the role of light-hitting, reserve outfielder with periodic DH duties? Alex, as I noted in my Sunday Rockies Journal, Bryant's future is one of the biggest question marks facing the Rockies. The club won't say it publicly, but there is frustration over Bryant's inability to stay on the field.

8/12/24 Rockies place Kris Bryant on injured list for third time this season. The Rockies' return on investment on Kris Bryant continues to dwindle. Colorado placed the often-hurt Bryant on the injured list on Monday for the third time this season, this time with a back strain as the outfielder/first baseman's arthritic back continues to be an issue. Bryant, who missed 31 games in April/May with a back strain and then 43 games in June/July with a rib/oblique issue, is batting .218 with two homers, a .301 slugging and -0.7 WAR in 2024. The Rockies' highest-paid player with a $28 million salary this year, Bryant is under contract on a seven-year, $182 million deal through 2028.

8/03/24 Bryant hits go-ahead, two-run single and the Rockies beat the Padres for the 5th straight time, 5-2. Kris Bryant hit a go-ahead, two-run single with the bases loaded in the sixth inning and the Colorado Rockies beat San Diego 5-2 for their fifth straight win against the Padres. The Rockies entered the night 30 games under .500 and last in the NL West. They swept the Padres on May 13-15 in San Diego and also won the last game of a series in Denver in late April. It was San Diego’s third loss in 12 games since the All-Star break. Colorado's Brendan Rodgers had three hits, including a leadoff homer in the second. Austin Gomber got the win.

7/26/24 'Frustrated' Kris Bryant aims to heat up as Rockies visit Giants. Kris Bryant continues a pre-trade deadline showcase at the site of his stat-padding in 2021 when the Colorado Rockies visit the San Francisco Giants for a four-game series beginning Friday night. The set matches the bottom two teams in the National League West. The Giants potentially are looking to buy before Tuesday's deadline, while the Rockies surely to be on the receiving end of calls. The much-maligned Bryant likely put his name on some watch lists with three hits and three runs Wednesday in Colorado's 20-7 home win over the Boston Red Sox.
