7/13/25 | Dodgers Lose Veteran Infielder Who Leaves Organization to Sign Elsewhere. It took him the better part of three months, but Michael Chavis learned what many before him have discovered: the road back to the major leagues isn't wide open if you intend to play first base in Los Angeles. Chavis, the former Boston Red Sox prospect who signed a minor league contract with the Dodgers in February, played 63 games with Triple-A Oklahoma City this year. 7/09/25 | Red Sox 25-HR former slugger leaving MLB to sign contract in Japan. It's not that long ago that Michael Chavis was an MLB home run hitter. But now he's taking his talents across the Pacific. Reports out of Japan indicate that Chavis is going to sign with the Chunichi Dragons. Chavis is currently an MLB free agent. He was a first-round pick of the Red Sox in 2014. He made his MLB debut for Boston in 2019 and ended up hitting 25 homers for the Red Sox across three partial seasons. He then spent two seasons with the Pirates and a year with the Nationals, which was his last MLB time in 2023. Chavis has a career MLB average of .238 to go with 42 homers in 357 games.
