2/20/24 Aaron Nola, a Phillie since 2015, relishes his journey with the team — and a new role as mentor. It took seven years for David Buchanan to make it back to the Phillies, an odyssey that included stops in Japan and South Korea. Indeed, Nola was there in 2015, alongside Buchanan in the starting rotation for the last two months of a 99-loss Phillies season.

2/19/24 Aaron Nola happy to stay with Philadelphia Phillies. Aaron Nola never felt pressure to sign a long-term contract during spring training last year, instead becoming a free agent after the season and quickly agreeing to a $172 million, seven-year deal to remain with the Philadelphia Phillies. After the Phillies won the 2022 NL pennant and reached the NL Championship Series last year, Philadelphia management was intent on keeping Nola. “The No. 1 goal in the offseason was sign Nola,” Phillies manager Rob Thomson said. Selected seventh overall in the 2014 amateur draft, Nola has spent his entire career in the Phillies organization.

While Aaron Nola had plenty of interested teams in free agency, the star pitcher decided to re-sign with the Philadelphia Phillies. 2/18/24 Phillies ace Aaron Nola confirms Braves were interested in him as free agent. For a time this winter, the Braves tried convincing Aaron Nola to swap that “P” for an “A.” But the Louisiana native instead remains an adversary in the increasingly fierce Braves-Phillies rivalry. Needing rotation upgrades, the Braves pursued Nola, the Phillies' co-ace, in free agency before he re-signed with the franchise that raised him. “They (the Braves) had interest,” Nola told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. There are obvious reasons the Braves were intrigued: Nola is only 30 years old, a beloved teammate and has proven himself in two crucial areas, innings consumption and postseason performance.
