3/03/24 J.D. Davis trade landing spots: Five teams who could use veteran third baseman after Giants sign Matt Chapman. Davis said he was shocked by Chapman's signing and wasn't warned before the news broke
3/02/24 Matt Chapman signing excites, surprises with SF Giants' clubhouse. When J.D. Davis entered his late-night screening of the “Dune” sequel on Friday, he was the San Francisco Giants third baseman. The texts were not from Farhan Zaidi or any of his deputies in the Giants' front office. Davis opened up social media, where he learned that Zaidi had brought in a new third baseman. Zaidi waited out super agent Scott Boras and late Friday night secured a bargain-bin deal with four-time Gold Glover Matt Chapman.
2/08/24 Utilityman J.D. Davis beats Giants in arbitration, 7th straight player to win. Utilityman J.D. Davis became the seventh straight player to win in salary arbitration, beating the San Francisco Giants on Thursday and getting a raise from $4.21 million to $6.9 million rather than the team's $6.55 million offer. Joshua Gordon, Margaret Brogan and Brian Keller made the decision one day after listening to arguments. Davis hit .248 with 18 homers and 69 RBIs last year in his first full season with the Giants, who obtained him from the New York Mets on Aug. 2, 2022.
1/11/24 SF Giants reach deals with all arbitration-eligible players except J.D. Davis before deadline. J.D. Davis is the only arbitration-eligible Giant to not settle on an agreement prior to Major League Baseball's deadline. Outfielders Austin Slater and Mike Yastrzemski each agreed to one-year deals in November, and San Francisco also avoided arbitration with contracts for Thairo Estrada, LaMonte Wade Jr. and Tyler Rogers, the club announced. Estrada, who led Giants position players in wins above replacement last year, per Fangraphs, agreed to a $4.7 million deal.
10/29/23 Player Review: J.D. Davis. If you take J.D. Davis's overall offensive stats accrued over six months from March 30th through the end of September 2023, it might be the worst offensive season of his career. Since his breakout season with the Mets in 2019, he's never logged a season OPS lower than .750 or an OPS+ lower than 110.
