On Wednesday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reported the Minnesota Twins claimed the right-handed pitcher off waivers from the Boston Red Sox. Weiss, 31, spent parts of two seasons with the Angels in 2022 and 2023. It was a long-awaited homecoming for Weiss, an Irvine native and standout at UCLA whom the Cincinnati Reds tabbed in the sixth round of the 2013 draft. Weiss debuted with the Reds in 2018 before bouncing around the league.
1/31/24 Red Sox Claim Utility Player From White Sox, DFA Pitcher. The Red Sox on Wednesday made an addition to their 40-man roster weeks ahead of spring training. Boston claimed utility player Romy González from the Chicago White Sox, and it designated Zack Weiss for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster, as announced in a press release. González was drafted by the White Sox in the 18th round of the 2018 MLB Amateur Draft.
