10/16/24 Willi Castro named Most Valuable Twin as team announces Diamond Award winners. It was nearly impossible to tear Willi Castro off the field this year as the utilityman bounced from position to position for the Twins, playing in 158 games. The 27-year-old, who wrote his name in the record books as the only player in Major League Baseball history to play 25 or more games at five different defensive players in a season, was rewarded by being named to his first All-Star Game in July and being named a Gold Glove Award finalist on Tuesday. On Wednesday, he was announced as the Most Valuable Twin and will be honored at the 20th annual Diamond Awards that will take place on Jan. 23 at the Armory in downtown Minneapolis. While Castro was honored for his defense a day earlier, it was Carlos Santana, the Twins' other Gold Glove Award finalist, who was named the team's Defensive Player of the Year.

Castro made MLB history last Sunday when he started at third base for the Twins in the second game of a doubleheader against the Boston Red Sox. Castro is the first player to appear in at least 25 games at five different positions, per the Twins broadcast.

9/18/24 Willi Castro hits a 2-run homer, Twins down Guardians 4-1 to stay locked into AL wild-card spot. Willi Castro hit a two-run homer, Matt Wallner had two RBIs and the Minnesota Twins bounced back from a crushing loss in the series opener to beat the Cleveland Guardians 4-1 on Tuesday night and stay locked into the final AL wild card. Castro connected in the eighth inning, and both of Wallner's RBI singles came off Gavin Williams (3-10), who has just one win in his last seven starts. The Twins entered with a 1 1/2-game lead over Detroit for the last playoff berth, and they kept it with solid defense, strong relief and Castro's big swing one night after blowing a 3-0 lead on Monday.
