Author: Alex D'Agostino Publish date: Feb 15, 2024 9:00 AM EST In this story: Arizona Diamondbacks As the D-backs pitchers and catchers report to Salt River Fields today, so begins the journey of another 162-game season, with all the highs and hardships that may come from the quest to win a World Series. Veteran reliever and D-backs closer Paul Sewald caught up with the media to share his belief in the importance of having the right mindset as a unit, especially coming off of Arizona's powerful 2023 run. Despite the dramatic finish to the D-backs' season,
2/12/24 Diamondbacks 2024 Camp Battles: Final Reliever. Diamondbacks 2024 Camp Battles: Final Reliever Making the case for and against three relievers in a competition for what could be the final Opening Day roster spot Author: Michael McDermott Publish date: Feb 12, 2024 6:50 PM EST In this story: Arizona Diamondbacks The sixth and final camp battle we're highlighting at Inside the Diamondbacks will be the final spot in the bullpen. This is based off the assumption the team will likely carry two left-handers to start the season. 1/12/24 40 in 40: Dominic Canzone is on the precipice. Fairly or not, he'll be linked to the polarizing Paul Sewald trade that saw Seattle's beloved closer shipped to Arizona at the trade deadline last year - after which Sewald became a key part of the Diamondbacks' run to the World Series (let's, uh, not bring up the Fall Classic itself) - for a trio of question marks, and he arguably remains the biggest one. Josh Rojas enjoyed a nice second-half bounceback with the M's - as Jacob wrote last week, that bounceback could stay rolling into 2024 - while Ryan Bliss saw his prospect stock climb down the stretch thanks to a sizzling finish in Tacoma and a showing in the Arizona Fall League that turned some heads, particularly with his glovework. Canzone, however, had an uneven first year in the big leagues at age 26, and although he brings a consistent track record of success at the plate throughout the minor leagues, is far from a sure thing. Drafted in the ninth round in 2019 out of the University of Ohio, Canzone was initially assigned to rookie ball despite a big junior year, and quickly outgrew the Pioneer League.
