1/05/24 New Year's resolutions for the Phillies. Here at The Good Phight, we're fans. We follow the Phillies just like you do, watch the game with as much focus and attention as you do and we strive to bring you praise when called for, fair criticism when warranted. We feel it's only fair to give the team some ideas for resolutions for the team as they enter the New Year. Ethan Witte For goodness sake, use the backup catcher. Listen, I'm not saying that Garrett Stubbs is any great shakes. Is he a great clubhouse presence? Of course. It's clearly something the team believes in because he's still here. He's not taking up a massive chunk of the payroll, so if the team likes him and the pitching staff likes him, might as well keep him around. But
11/17/23 Phillies sign trio and tender contracts to five more arbitration-eligible players. Faced with a deadline to offer 2024 contracts to players who are eligible for salary arbitration, the Phillies signed three of those players to one-year deals. Backup catcher Garrett Stubbs, reserve outfielder Jake Cave, and right-hander Dylan Covey agreed to terms to return next season, the team announced Friday night. Salary figures weren't immediately available. Each player is expected to receive a raise over their 2023 salary (Cave made $950,000, while Stubbs and Covey made $741,000 and $720,000, respectively). The Phillies tendered contracts to five other arbitration-eligible players: third baseman Alec Bohm , lefty Ranger Suárez, infielder Edmundo Sosa, and relievers Jeff Hoffman and Gregory
11/10/23 2023 Phillies in review: Garrett Stubbs. Garrett Stubbs has one of the most fun jobs in sports. As understudy to the Best (and Most Reliable) Catcher in Baseball, he's called on just about once a week to hold down home plate and give JT Realmuto a breather.
11/01/23 Arizona Diamondbacks' Chase Field pool attracts national attention amid World Series. Throughout baseball's postseason, the Arizona Diamondbacks have embraced a certain motivation that only they can claim: Keep the visiting team from rushing Chase Field and racing across the turf for a post-win splash in the stadium pool located in right-center field. First, the Philadelphia Phillies were denied their pool party in the National League Championship Series when the Diamondbacks thwarted their opponent's plans to clinch the pennant at Chase Field. “I've seen that pool before, so I know exactly where it is,” Phillies backup catcher Garrett Stubbs had told the Philadelphia Inquirer. “If we take two here against Arizona, we'll be bee-lining it for the water.”
10/24/23 2023 NLCS: Phillies Hoped To Follow Dodgers Lead With Pool Party At Chase Field. In 2013, the Los Angeles Dodgers began their run of eight straight National League West division titles, and 11 consecutive postseason appearances, by celebrating with a pool party at Chase Field after defeating the Arizona Diamondbacks. If that happens, Phillies backup catcher and former USC standout Garrett Stubbs said Wednesday, “We'll be bee-lining it for the water.”
