Dalbec was among the players in Boston's minor league system who elected free agency earlier this week, according to multiple reports. The Red Sox designated Dalbec for assignment in September, but he returned to Triple-A Worcester after going unclaimed. A 2016 fourth-round pick by the Red Sox, Dalbec showed promise as a rookie in 2020 when he logged eight home runs and 16 RBIs in only 23 games. Former Boston Red Sox fan-favorite first baseman Bobby Dalbec found that out the hard way the past few seasons. After a solid 2021 season, Dalbec continually lost playing time at the major league level and ended up spending the vast majority of 2024 in Triple-A, even getting designated for assignment before eventually returning to the Boston organization. Five-year Boston Red Sox veteran first baseman Bobby Dalbec is parting with the team to test free agency, per Chris Cotillo. Dalbec was designated for assignment by the Sox back in September. Dalbec was an amazing rookie with the Sox, as in his first 23 games in the 2020 season, he had 21 hits, and eight homers.
