The Chicago Cubs were widely expected this winter to try to add a veteran catcher to at the very least platoon with the young Miguel Amaya who has had an up and down start to his career. One of those potential options who could come in and split time - and probably the best one available in a very thin free agent market at the position - was Danny Jansen, traded within the division at the deadline from the Toronto Blue Jays to the Boston Red Sox. 11/14/24 | Chicago Cubs Linked To Power-Hitting Veteran Catcher in MLB Free Agency. As the Chicago Cubs get set to try to improve this offseason, one position they have been consistently predicted to try to upgrade is catcher. While bringing a superstar behind the plate probably isn't possible given who's available, at the very least Chicago is expected to acquire someone who can platoon with Miguel Amaya. The youngster played 117 games in his first full season in the big leagues and hit for a .232 batting average with eight home runs, 47 RBI, and an OPS of .644. Upgrades at different positions throughout their lineup is needed, but they also need their current star players to perform at a consistent rate the entire year. Catcher has routinely been mentioned as a position the Cubs will look to improve this winter after Miguel Amaya didn't take the next step in his career following becoming the full-time starter, but it's not clear what direction they are going to take.
