12/07/24 Chicago Cubs Potential Free Agent Catcher Target Danny Jansen Signs With Rays. The Chicago Cubs were widely expected this winter to try to add a veteran catcher to at the very least platoon with the young Miguel Amaya who has had an up and down start to his career. One of those potential options who could come in and split time - and probably the best one available in a very thin free agent market at the position - was Danny Jansen, traded within the division at the deadline from the Toronto Blue Jays to the Boston Red Sox. Instead, Jasen remains in the American League East and has signed a one-year, $8 million contract with the Tampa Bay Rays.

11/14/24 Chicago Cubs Linked To Power-Hitting Veteran Catcher in MLB Free Agency. As the Chicago Cubs get set to try to improve this offseason, one position they have been consistently predicted to try to upgrade is catcher. While bringing a superstar behind the plate probably isn't possible given who's available, at the very least Chicago is expected to acquire someone who can platoon with Miguel Amaya. The youngster played 117 games in his first full season in the big leagues and hit for a .232 batting average with eight home runs, 47 RBI, and an OPS of .644. It wasn't a bad year for Amaya by any means, but upgrading the position is certainly in the cards.

11/12/24 Potential Chicago Cubs Catching Target Inks Deal With Los Angeles Angels. One of the things that has been known regarding what the Chicago Cubs are going to do this offseason is try to upgrade their catcher position. Miguel Amaya couldn't quite break through like expected when he was handed the full-time starting job ahead of this past season, and with only aging veteran Yan Gomes on the roster to back him up, they had one of the worst producing units in the league.

11/06/24 Chicago Cubs will look for a catcher to share starts with Miguel Amaya — and Michael Busch will remain at first base. SAN ANTONIO — Without a trade, the Chicago Cubs don’t have a clear avenue to infuse more talent into the lineup, unless they try to improve the catcher position where the franchise doesn’t have a clear-cut everyday starter. Miguel Amaya, 25, overcame a difficult offensive beginning to the year by hitting .282 with a .331 on-base percentage and .799 OPS after July 6, aided by eliminating a leg ...

10/19/24 Insider Says Chicago Cubs Will Likely Add Another Veteran to Key Position Group. There is a lot on the plate of the Chicago Cubs' front office this offseason. Upgrades at different positions throughout their lineup is needed, but they also need their current star players to perform at a consistent rate the entire year. Catcher has routinely been mentioned as a position the Cubs will look to improve this winter after Miguel Amaya didn't take the next step in his career following becoming the full-time starter, but it's not clear what direction they are going to take. Star prospect Moises Ballesteros reached Triple-A this past season, but based on his age, he still seems unlikely to be utilized in a serious role next year.
