2/14/24 Mets' David Peterson progressing well after hip surgery. PORT ST. LUCIE — David Peterson figured it was just normal aches and pains. But after pitching through discomfort for much of last season and finding little relief afterward, the Mets left-hander got evaluated and was told he had a torn labrum in his left hip. “Most of last year, it was just kind of one of those on-and-off things,” Peterson said Wednesday at Clover Park. “It just kind of felt like my body was beat up and then we decided to see what was going on and take a look. That is kind of when we found out everything that is going on.” David Peterson, who is still recovering from offseason hip surgery, likely will miss the first month or two of the season. 11/13/23 Mets pitcher has been MLB's best at beating new rules. Baseball's new rules implemented in 2023, however, reinforced a pitcher's ability to perform another basic task of his job: keeping baserunners close and preventing stealing. The Statcast metric unveiled Saturday showed that New York Mets lefty David Peterson has been the best in MLB at “preventing base runners from advancing on the bases, via steal attempts or pickoffs/balks,” as defined by MLB, from first base over the past four and two seasons, respectively. According to the metric, Peterson's ability to keep base runners close has been worth 16 Pitcher Base Advances Prevented over the past four seasons, and he was 14 over the past two seasons.
11/09/23 Mets Morning News: David Peterson has hip surgery, Scott Boras discusses Pete Alonso. David Peterson underwent hip surgery and is expected to be out six to seven months. With Peterson expected to miss the start of the season, the team's pitching depth has now taken a major hit. At the GM meetings, David Stearns again reiterated that he expects Pete Alonso to be on the team next season. Alonso's new agent, Scott Boras, said the Polar Bear is willing to listen to an extension from the Mets and he expects to talk with Stearns frequently this offseason.
