5/22/24 Injured Houston Astros Ace Makes Important Strides In Recovery. The Houston Astros have faced pitching woes all season, but things are finally on the way up. Luis Garcia went down with a right elbow injury last May and he underwent Tommy John surgery. Brian McTaggart shared a video of Garcia throwing off the mound before the game on Tuesday. The 27-year-old's return was already highly anticipated, but the Astros' starting rotation having so many issues early on is making it even more of a necessity.
5/19/24 Houston Astros 'Don't Foresee' Pair of Injured Pitchers Back Anytime Soon. It's been a tough year for the Houston Astros and their pitching staff. Already knowing they would be without Luis Garcia and Lance McCullers Jr. until roughly the midway point of this season, they were dealt some tough news when Justin Verlander came into camp behind schedule and started out on the injured list. Things started snowballing from there as Jose Urquidy hit the IL, followed by Framber Valdez and Cristian Javier. This forced the Astros to rely on their second-year starters, Hunter Brown and J.P. France, among some of their top minor leaguers who were called up.
5/04/24 Luis Garcia Jr. hits pinch, 3-run shot in 7th to help the Nationals beat the Blue Jays 9-3. Luis Garcia Jr. hit a three-run shot deep to center field in the seventh inning for his first career pinch-hit home run, helping the Washington Nationals rally for a 9-3 victory over the reeling Toronto Blue Jays on Friday. Garcia connected on Erik Swanson’s 85-mph splitter for his second homer of the season to give Washington a 4-3 lead. Nick Senzel added an RBI double in the inning. The Nationals added four runs in the eighth, benefitting from two fielding errors. They have won six of their last eight to get back to .500 at 16-16. It was their 11th comeback win of the season. Staked to a 3-1 lead, the Blue Jays’ bullpen collapsed.
