6/27/24 Deadspin | Cellar dwellers collide when White Sox host Rockies. Chicago White Sox outfielder Gavin Sheets was addressing a recent heel bruise when he said, "It's going to be all pain tolerance going forward." Forgive an onlooker for mistaking that as a second-half forecast for the struggling White Sox and Colorado Rockies, who meet in the opener of a three-game series Friday in Chicago. At .265 and .338, respectively, the White Sox and Rockies sport the lowest winning percentages in baseball. Chicago stopped a four-game losing streak with a 1-0 win against the Atlanta Braves on Thursday, while Colorado has dropped three in a row.
6/25/24 White Sox reach halfway mark of season with records for futility in reach. The White Sox reached the halfway point of a season Tuesday trending toward an historical significance they want nothing to do with. Insignificance and not being noticed is nothing to strive for, but challenging franchise records for futility and the 1962 Mets' 40-120 record for the most losses in modern history will bring attention no one associated with the organization wants during the second half. In the clubhouse, the records aren't talked about. “It's not something we think about at all,” outfielder-first baseman Gavin Sheets said.
6/09/24 Gavin Sheets' grand slam boosts White Sox to 6-1 win over Red Sox. As the media approached him in the locker room Saturday after the White Sox' 6-1 victory over the Red Sox, Gavin Sheets' teammates ribbed him about the attention he was about to receive. The joshing was clearly in jest, and Sheets earned the spotlight with his fifth-inning grand slam, the first of his career. During Sheets' give-and-take with reporters, injured Sox pitcher Dominic Leone even stood in the media scrum holding out his phone, mimicking the way journalists record the quotes. “Winning is always a lot of fun,” Sheets said.
6/09/24 Gavin Sheets hits first career grand slam vs. Red Sox on Saturday afternoon. Gavin Sheets' seventh home run of the season gave the White Sox a 6-2 victory over the Red Sox
6/08/24 Sheets hits grand slam as the White Sox beat the Red Sox 6-1 for 2nd straight win. Gavin Sheets hit his first career grand slam, and the Chicago White Sox won their second straight after a franchise-record 14-game losing streak, beating the Boston Red Sox 6-1. Sheets capped a five-run fifth with his seventh homer of the season, a 399-foot drive to right off Brayan Bello that gave Chicago a 5-1 lead. Paul DeJong added a solo drive in the seventh, and the White Sox earned consecutive wins for the first time since beating Washington on May 14 and 15. Chicago is a major league-worst 17-48. Boston’s Bobby Dalbec homered leading off the fifth.
