11/22/24 Report: Pirates Non-Tender Three Players. The Pittsburgh Pirates are cutting ties with three players ahead of the non-tender deadline. MLB.com's Alex Stumpf and Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that the Pirates are non-tendering outfielder Bryan De La Cruz, first baseman and outfielder Connor Joe and right-handed pitcher Hunter Stratton. The deadline for teams to non-tender players was 8 p.m. ET on Friday. Hiles also reported that Pittsburgh and Stratton are working on a minor league deal, though nothing has been agreed to yet. The Pirates acquired De La Cruz via trade from the Miami Marlins at the 2024 trade deadline. The right-handed outfielder struggled to find his footing in Pittsburgh, hitting .200/.220/.294 with

11/21/24 New Houston Astros Trade Idea Buys Low On Embattled Pittsburgh Pirates Slugger. The Houston Astros need offensive help in the outfield and will need find a value-forward option in the trade market to do so. One such player is Pittsburgh Pirates slugger Bryan De La Cruz. Tim Kelly of Bleacher Report now has De La Cruz as the most likely Pittsburgh player to be shipped out this winter. A possible deal between the two teams could see Houston send prospects Zach Cole and Jackson Nezuh to the Pirates in exchange for the struggling slugger.

9/08/24 Preview: Pirates Facing Pivotal Game vs. Nationals. The Pittsburgh Pirates were one hit and one out away from a win in their doubleheader against the Washington Nationals on Saturday. Neither moment arose for the Pirates, and now they have to play for a series split on Sunday. In the first game of the doubleheader, Pittsburgh loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, down 5-3. Bryan De La Cruz grounded into a double play to thwart the Pirates' comeback attempt and end the game. In the second game, Pittsburgh led 6-4 in the top of the ninth inning and was one out away from the win. Washington got four straight hits off of Aroldis Chapman, including back-to-back doubles from Ildemaro Vargas and Keibert Ruiz to make it 8-6.

8/27/24 Mets' Edwin Díaz, Reds' Alexis Díaz Combine to Make Brutal Brotherly History. The Díaz family had a historically rough go on Sunday. It started with Cincinnati Reds closer Alexis Díaz, who took the mound with his team leading the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth inning. Díaz plunked Bryan De La Cruz with one out, then allowed a walk-off, two-run home run to veteran Yasmani Grandal. A little over two hours later, Díaz's older brother Edwin checked in for the New York Mets, who were tied 2-2 with the San Diego Padres the bottom of the ninth.
