1/18/24 Yankees Sign Local Infielder. The New York Yankees have signed infielder Kevin Smith, a native of East Greenbush, to a minor league deal. Smith played in 49 games with the Oakland Athletics last year, finishing with a career-best OPS of .546. Smith graduated from Columbia High School in East Greenbush, about ten minutes outside of Albany.
1/09/24 Columbia grad, major leaguer Kevin Smith signing with Yankees. Kevin Smith is headed to the Bronx. A 2014 graduate of Columbia High School and native of East Greenbush, Smith announced on Instagram and X on Monday afternoon that he was “headed home for 2024.” In the post he tagged the New York Yankees and included a photo of himself wearing Yankees gear as a child. Smith will reportedly sign a one-year minor league deal with an invitation to Spring Training, as first reported by WNYT's Rodger Wyland.

New York agreed to a contract with former Toronto Blue Jays infielder Kevin Smith, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. Smith, 27, can play third base and shortstop. He made his MLB debut with Toronto in 2021, ultimately appearing in 18 games that season. He ended up with the Oakland Athletics for the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Smith played in a total 96 games for the A's, displaying signs of potential but never carving out a full-time role. Still, his versatility could prove to be valuable for New York. 9/06/23 Carlos Pérez and Kevin Smith homers power Athletics to a 5-2 win over Blue Jays. Carlos Pérez broke out of a lengthy batting slump with a two-run homer off Hyun Jin Ryu and the Oakland Athletics avoided a three-game sweep by beating the Toronto Blue Jays 5-2 on Wednesday. It was a milestone day for Ryu. Pérez's sixth home run of the season accounted for the only A's runs scored off Ryu (3-2), who allowed five hits and had five strikeouts with one walk. Kevin Smith, called up from the minors before the game, added a three-run homer off Trevor Richards for the A's. Oakland had lost two straight to the Blue Jays after sweeping Shohei Ohtani and the Angels to begin its homestand.
