4/27/24 Aaron Boone explains why Yankees' costly baserunning decision in extras was right call. Friday night in Milwaukee wasn't the first time this season the Yankees have been burned in an extra-inning loss on the contact play. Two weeks ago in Cleveland, pinch-runner Kevin Smith was thrown out at home plate in the 10th inning on a sharp ground ball to first base from Alex Verdugo. The Yankees had already scored two runs in that extra frame, but the third — Smith getting thrown out in what turned into an inning-ending double play — turned out to be the difference in a walk-off loss to the Guardians.

East Greenbush native Kevin Smith was promoted to the New York Yankees' major league roster last weekend after infielder Jon Berti was placed on the 10-day injured list. Smith wore number 74. Smith made his Yankees debut in the tenth inning of game two of a doubleheader against the Cleveland Guardians, pinch running for Giancarlo Stanton.

Kevin Smith, the East Greenbush native who competed for a spot on the New York Yankees' roster this spring, has been sent down to the Yankees' AAA minor league affiliate Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. With injuries to infielders DJ LeMahieu and Oswald Peraza, Smith had been in consideration for a spot on the bench.

The Albany suburb is roughly equidistant to New York City and Boston. Smith talked trash on behalf of the Yankees, as he would often stay up late to watch their games with his dad and grandpa. “We were a big Yankees fan family,” he said, adding that he gravitated toward Jeter.
