Credit: Corey Sipkin for the NY POST Corey Sipkin for the NY Post PORT ST. LUCIE – Mark Vientos didn't need to be here this week, but he sent a positive message to the Mets by arriving before most of the other position players. He isn't satisfied with the breakout season he had last year and is determined to maintain the work ethic that helped transform him into an important piece of the Mets lineup. “I want the baseball season to start,” Vientos said. 2/05/25 | MACK - My Thursday Observations. Overall, he saw 72 games last year before the injury and managed a .262/.335/.447 slash with 11 HR's throughout. Baez isn't close to the majors, he's the farthest one away from it in this article, but Baez has been consistent throughout his time with the Mets. Third base is manned by Mark Vientos for the foreseeable future, but as of this writing, we don't know if he'll be moving over to first base in the mean time either. If Vientos moves over to first, it only makes keeping the best prospects around that fit that position. Source: http://macksmets.blogspot.com/2025/02/mack-my-thur... |

1/22/25 | METS APPEAR TO BE MOVING ON FROM ALONSO. The Mets have already decided on Alonso's replacement amid a contract stand-off. In a recent interview with the New York Post, infield coach Mike Sarbaugh hinted that they're confident in shifting young third baseman Mark Vientos to first base. Vientos had a breakout 2024 season, hitting 27 home runs, driving in 71 runs, and maintaining a .266 average. Sarbaugh said, “I haven't seen him a lot at first base, but Mark puts a lot of work in, so I think wherever he ends up, he'll be just fine.” Source: http://bleedingyankeeblue.blogspot.com/2025/01/met... |
1/18/25 | New York Mets Reportedly Set to Make Drastic Change with Young Infielder in 2025. According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the New York Mets are expecting to shift young infielder Mark Vientos to first base in 2025. This comes in the wake of the team seemingly not bringing back Pete Alonso in free agency. Talks between Alonso and the Mets broke down earlier this week. The current plan is to shift Mark Vientos to first base and have Luisangel Acuña, Brett Baty and Ronny Mauricio vie for third base. Source: https://www.si.com/fannation/mlb/fastball/news/new... |
1/17/25 | Mets have faith in Mark Vientos filling potential Pete Alonso void at first base. Mark Vientos hasn't dazzled in his limited exposure to first base, but there is a measure of confidence within the organization he can handle the position if needed. The Mets' decision in recent days to move away from a reunion with Pete Alonso, after the slugging first baseman rejected the team's last offer — a three-year deal in the $68 million to $70 million range, according to The Post's Joel Sherman — has left Vientos as a prime candidate for a move across the infield this season. Vientos' first base experience includes 14 games in the major leagues and 70 in the minors. “He wasn't very good at first base,” a scout from a National League team said Friday. “But I thought he had a chance to Source: https://nypost.com/2025/01/17/sports/mets-have-fai... |
1/05/25 | MACK -.MY Sunday Observations Report -. Good morning. The recent signings by the Los Angeles Dodgers have caused me to wonder just how important it is the operate a baseball team below the luxury tax limits… especially if your team is making a shit load of money or your owner is richer than the soon to be installed President. (by the way… still think the best team in history was the 1977 Dodgers) The current Mets are becoming dominant in power bats. 3B Mark Vientos , SS Francisco Lindor , RF Juan Soto , and emerging C Francisco Alvarez are all flashing current and future home run creds. Should we wait to see if current Mets chain prospects develop into the next one? Well, that worked for Vientos, seems to be working for Alvarez, was Source: http://macksmets.blogspot.com/2025/01/mack-my-sund... |

12/06/24 | Mets predicted to cut ties with six-time All-Star after disappointing $12M tenure. The New York Mets were a team in transition in 2024. Priority number one for the Mets this winter is signing superstar outfielder Juan Soto--or more accurately, prying him from the grip of the crosstown rival New York Yankees. The Mets have a burgeoning group of young stars, headed up by breakout third baseman Mark Vientos. J.D. Martinez, who signed a one-year, $12 million contract last year with the Mets during Spring Training, is likely to be on the move after a fairly mediocre year in Queens. 12/02/24 | Reese Kaplan -- Saving Money While Bolstering the Infield for 2025. Any long term Mets fan remembers some less than spectacular players the Mets trotted out to 2nd base and in particular to 3rd base during their 62 year history in the National League. You know the names and you know how hard it's been to see All Stars across town and around all of baseball while the club for which we give our devotion and enthusiasm instead trot out the likes of guys like Roy Staiger (oops, sorry, I did cite someone but he is long enough ago that it shouldn't cause too much of a disturbance for anyone's day). Nowadays the Mets are in a much different position given the unreal season produced by Mark Vientos and the fact that former NL batting champ Jeff McNeil are on the roster. Of course, with the impending free agency departure of Pete Alonso the club may very well shift Mark Vientos across the diamond to take over for him. Last year at this time, Mark Vientos wasn't regarded as an integral piece of the organization's future. Now he's a huge element . The sample size is much smaller on Luisangel Acuña, but as recently as six weeks ago, there wasn't much buzz regarding the infielder. 10/21/24 | Rising Star Mark Vientos Sets New York Mets Postseason Record. One of the most impressive aspects of the New York Mets' special run in 2024 came from the emergence of third baseman Mark Vientos. Vientos had a breakout campaign in the regular season and it did not stop in October. Vientos slashed an impressive .327/.362/.636 with a .998 OPS, five home runs and 14 RBI in his first 13 postseason games with the Mets. The surprising part is that Vientos was not even on the Mets' Opening Day roster. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/mets/news/rising-star-mark-... |

Mark Vientos never attained star prospect status within the Mets system because of various questions about his defensive ability, bat speed and emotional makeup. But after getting recalled to the major leagues in May and receiving a chance to play every day, the 24-year-old blossomed into a top performer for a club that surged into the National League Championship Series, where they now trail 3-1 to the Dodgers . “He's outperformed what I thought he would be, and any Source: https://nypost.com/2024/10/18/sports/the-dramatic-... |

The Mets third baseman was one of the many stars in attendance for the Liberty's 95-93 Game 1 overtime loss to the Minnesota Lynx on Thursday night at Barclays Center, and he got a hero's welcome. The scoreboard hanging over half-court showed a replay of Vientos' first home run in Game 2 of the NLDS before going live to Vientos, who was wearing a black baseball hat and sunglasses.
