7/09/25 | Where the struggling Mark Vientos fits into the Mets’ plans. Mark Vientos began the season regarded as a key Mets lineup piece, but his underwhelming production lately has left him on the bench. Source: https://sports.yahoo.com/article/where-struggling-... |
7/07/25 | Why the Mets think Mark Vientos can get back to where he wants to be. This year, the slugger's slugging numbers have diminished, and while the Mets aren't necessarily worried about him, the at-bats have been spread out as he tries to find his stride this season. “I feel like he's missing good pitches to hit,” manager Carlos Mendoza said over the weekend. Vientos, 25, is hitting just .212 with a .619 OPS this season. Source: https://www.nydailynews.com/2025/07/07/mark-viento... |
7/05/25 | Mets called top trade destination for unsung NL slugger. Many New York Mets fans still believe that Mark Vientos is going to turn things around and re-find the same form he showed during the 2024 season. Others feel like the front office's best course of action would be to acquire another third baseman before the July 31 trade deadline to help deepen the team's lineup. Given that the Colorado Rockies are abysmal this season, they'll surely be sellers at the deadline. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/mets/news/mets-called-top-t... |
6/30/25 | Mets trade pitch brings $60 million All-Star third baseman to New York. The New York Mets certainly seemed to have enough bodies to handle third base this season, but no one has stepped up. Mark Vientos took a huge step back from his breakout season in 2024, then landed on the injured list. Brett Baty has once again proven to be unreliable at the plate. Luisangel Acuña and Ronny Mauricio are intriguing talents, but unestablished and further down the depth chart. Source: https://www.sportingnews.com/us/mlb/new-york-mets/... |
6/27/25 | New York Mets make a decision on Ronny Mauricio. With Mark Vientos returning from the injured list Friday, the New York Mets have made a decision on their bench. According to SNY's Andy Martino, the Mets are optioning lefty-hitting utilityman Jared Young to Triple-A. He posted a .642 OPS in 18 games. Mauricio, 24, was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse on June 3 after Vientos was placed on the injured list with a right hamstring strain. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/mets/news/new-york-mets-mak... |

6/25/25 | Mark Vientos shines in likely final rehab game before rejoining Mets. Mark Vientos played third base for Triple-A Syracuse during what was likely his final rehab game before the Mets activate him from the injured list. Source: https://sports.yahoo.com/article/mark-vientos-shin... |
6/24/25 | ESPN insiders call Mets top trade fit for Red Sox superstar. As the July 31 trade deadline approaches, each loss the New York Mets (who are 1-9 in their last 10 games) have makes it seem more likely that they're going to be aggressive in bringing players on board who can cement them as World Series contenders. One position that has become increasingly weak for New York lately is third base. Both Mark Vientos and Brett Baty are currently dealing with injuries, and neither player has been overly effective when healthy. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/mets/news/espn-insiders-cal... |
6/23/25 | Carlos Mendoza outlines Mets' plan for Mark Vientos, who could be activated later this week. It sounds like the Mets could have Mark Vientos back in the lineup at some point this week, perhaps as early as Thursday. Source: https://sny.tv/articles/carlos-mendoza-mets-plan-m... |
6/23/25 | Infield help could be an underrated need for the Mets at the deadline. A 2-8 stretch over their past 10 games has exposed a lot of holes that the New York Mets need to fill in order to become a true World Series contender. While a center fielder and bullpen help figure to be David Stearns' top priorities, Will Sammon of The Athletic suggested that improving the team's infield depth should also be on Stearns' radar. A lot of the Mets' issues at third base have come since Mark Vientos got injured earlier this month in Los Angeles, leaving the position in the hands of Brett Baty and Ronny Mauricio most of the time. Neither has seized the opportunity to grab a job, with Mauricio striking out 18 times in 50 at-bats (while hitting .180 overall) while Baty is just 6-for-52 in the month of June. Try it free PHILADELPHIA — The Mets could be facing another significant roster decision as soon as Monday. Mark Vientos is nearing a return from the right hamstring strain that has cost him almost three weeks, and manager Carlos Mendoza indicated before Sunday that the third baseman could be activated for the start of a four-game series against the Braves at Citi Field. Vientos played Sunday in a minor league rehab game for Triple-A Syracuse and went 1-for-5 as the starting third baseman. 6/22/25 | IN FOCUS: Roster Moves, Team Starter ERA, Team ERA, Pete Alonso. A couple of things... 1. The lack of production by the Baby Mets has reached the embarrassing stage. They basically have become three automatic outs almost every time they come to the plate. This is an area of concern that must be dealt with once midseason trades begin. Other than Mark Vientos , Syracuse is also basically void of potential major league talent here. And, news just another unproductive bat as part of the un-fab four. No time for any more patience here. And you can't keep trying to win games with only your top five hitters in the lineup. They have even lost their trade values. And don't let one home run and a couple of random hits distract you here. A complete regine change is needed Source: http://macksmets.blogspot.com/2025/06/in-focus-ros... |

6/17/25 | Carlos Mendoza faces decisions with Mets' young infielders. The New York Mets are entering a defining stretch, playing seven games against the Atlanta Braves and three against the Philadelphia Phillies over the next 10 days. As the team prepares for this crucial stretch, and with Mark Vientos set to begin a rehab assignment on Tuesday, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza faces the pressing task of deciding who will take over third base regularly and how to distribute playing time among his promising young infielders. 6/15/25 | Reinforcements coming. Mets infielder set to go on rehab assignment 'early next week'. The Mets haven't gotten much production out of third base since Mark Vientos went down with a right hamstring strain on June 2 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Fortunately, the injury was considered low-grade, and Vientos has been able to ramp up quicker than expected. On Saturday, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza provided an update on his young third baseman. “He ran yesterday up to 90%, (and) he's a full-go as far as hitting (and) taking groundballs,” Mendoza told reporters on Saturday. 6/11/25 | Jeff McNeil's offensive surge adds key length to Mets' lineup. While the New York Mets have a top-heavy lineup, the length of the group hasn't always been a strength this season. Struggles from Mark Vientos (prior to his hamstring injury) and Francisco Alvarez have been an issue in that department, making the contributions that second baseman Jeff McNeil is providing even more valuable. While the past two years have been uneven for McNeil, he has gotten off to a flying start in 2025 despite missing a few weeks due to an oblique strain suffered in spring training. McNeil is hitting .266 with six home runs and 19 RBI over his first 36 games, and his .891 OPS trails only Pete Alonso amongst Mets' position players.
