According to SNY's Andy Martino, the Mets are optioning lefty-hitting utilityman Jared Young to Triple-A. He posted a .642 OPS in 18 games. A 2-8 stretch over their past 10 games has exposed a lot of holes that the New York Mets need to fill in order to become a true World Series contender. While a center fielder and bullpen help figure to be David Stearns' top priorities, Will Sammon of The Athletic suggested that improving the team's infield depth should also be on Stearns' radar. A lot of the Mets' issues at third base have come since Mark Vientos got injured earlier this month in Los Angeles, leaving the position in the hands of Brett Baty and Ronny Mauricio most of the time. Neither has seized the opportunity to grab a job, with Mauricio striking out 18 times in 50 at-bats (while hitting .180 overall) while Baty is just 6-for-52 in the month of June. They basically have become three automatic outs almost every time they come to the plate. This is an area of concern that must be dealt with once midseason trades begin. Other than Mark Vientos , Syracuse is also basically void of potential major league talent here. And, news just another unproductive bat as part of the un-fab four. The Mets haven't gotten much production out of third base since Mark Vientos went down with a right hamstring strain on June 2 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Fortunately, the injury was considered low-grade, and Vientos has been able to ramp up quicker than expected. On Saturday, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza provided an update on his young third baseman. “He ran yesterday up to 90%, (and) he's a full-go as far as hitting (and) taking groundballs,” Mendoza told reporters on Saturday. 6/11/25	Jeff McNeil's offensive surge adds key length to Mets' lineup. While the New York Mets have a top-heavy lineup, the length of the group hasn't always been a strength this season. Struggles from Mark Vientos (prior to his hamstring injury) and Francisco Alvarez have been an issue in that department, making the contributions that second baseman Jeff McNeil is providing even more valuable. While the past two years have been uneven for McNeil, he has gotten off to a flying start in 2025 despite missing a few weeks due to an oblique strain suffered in spring training. McNeil is hitting .266 with six home runs and 19 RBI over his first 36 games, and his .891 OPS trails only Pete Alonso amongst Mets' position players.
