1/24/25 Reese Kaplan -- David Stearns Still Has a Long To Do List. Towards that end I got to thinking about the David Stearns To Do List now that the calendar has Spring Training for the 2025 season starting for pitchers and catchers a mere 18 days away. The obvious place to begin is the unresolved situation up the line from where Francisco Alvarez will be calling games from behind the plate. Others envision Mark Vientos making this transition from where he played almost exclusively third base. Others still feel a new resource from outside the organization could be obtained via late free agency or trade.

1/03/25 Reese Kaplan -- Is 2025's Team Better or Worse Than 2024's?. Having spent way too much time watching Youtube videos of the Mets moments in history during the year end holiday it got me to thinking about the team that came within two games of the World Series in 2024 and how it compares to the one thus far constructed to compete in 2025. Let's have a look. Catchers Francisco Alvarez Luis Torrens Infielders Pete Alonso Jeff McNeil Jose Iglesias Francisco Lindor Luisangel Acuna Mark Vientos Outfielders Brandon Nimmo Harrison Bader Starling Marte Tyrone Taylor Jesse Winker Designated Hitter J.D. Martinez Starting Pitchers Kodai Senga (injured for virtually the entire season) Sean Manaea Luis Severino Jose Quintana David Peterson Relief Pitchers Edwin Diaz

12/18/24 Mets continue offseason work, add slugging minor league catcher. The Mets bolstered their farm system on Wednesday with the signing of catcher Chris Williams to a minor league deal. Williams, who spent the 2024 season in the with the Minnesota Twins' Triple-A affiliate, has hit .227/.344/.464 with 95 home runs over minor league six seasons. The Twins selected Williams in the eighth round of the 2018 draft out of Clemson and he's been Minnesota's system since. Williams can serve as possible depth for starter Francisco Alvarez, and expected backup catcher Luis Torrens.

12/15/24 Uncustomed Heroes of 2024: Mets. Different people have attributed this to either Francisco Alvarez returning to the lineup, Carlos Mendoza calling a tense, 'come to Jesus' style meeting, or, ultimately, Grimace throwing out the first pitch. A season that began with such a torrid April and May, and Francisco Lindor struggling like never before, ended with Kodai Senga starting playoff games. While he ultimately wasn't as wholly terrific as his June was, Harrison Bader provided an endearing season after losing some goodwill last year. Mets fans really warmed up to this guy [at least before he completely shat the bed in August and September].

10/24/24 Emotional Mets player: I 'cried,' but 'I'm going to keep pushing forward' for a better 2025. New York Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez said it best: 2024 was a “roller coaster.” Expected to take an offensive leap in his second season, Alvarez's aggressiveness stunted his growth and he endured several prolonged slumps.

10/21/24 Crying Mets player needed to be consoled by teammate after season ended: 'This chapter is closed'. The worst part of a professional sports season — even for the title winner — is that the team from one season to the next will never be the same. For the New York Mets, the memories of a magical and fun 2024 season that once sunk to a 22-33 low in late May and ended on the precipice of a World Series berth will last forever. Francisco Alvarez, the Mets' 22-year-old catcher, is proof of that. Crying as he sat on the floor of the clubhouse after the Los Angeles Dodgers sent the Mets home after a 10-5 win in Game 6 of the NL Championship Series, Alvarez needed to be comforted by veteran Brandon Nimmo.

10/20/24 Mets-Dodgers series has gotten more chippy as pressure rises. LOS ANGELES — Is the chippiness between the Mets and Dodgers that crept up Friday finished? “We'll see,” Francisco Alvarez said Saturday during a workout at Dodger Stadium. “We'll see what's the next step.” Alvarez was in the middle of one incident during Game 5 . Dodgers' Andy Pages exaggerated bat flip after his homer in the Mets' Game 5 win didn't go over too well with Francisco Alvarez. Vincent Carchietta-Imagn Images Los Angeles' Andy Pages drilled a fourth-inning home run that trimmed the Mets lead to 8-2, and Pages watched it go. He walked four steps, flipped his bat and then began a slow trot around the bases. Explore More Mets' Carlos Mendoza has no regrets about not carrying extra reliever

10/11/24 Francisco Alvarez 'won't stop' during Mets' magical ride. The Mets have played 20 games since Sept. 16, and Francisco Alvarez has started 17 of them. Luis Torrens last started a game Sept. 30 — the meaningless back end of the doubleheader in Atlanta — and has not gotten the nod on a day the Mets had just a single game since Sept. 28. It has been two weeks since Alvarez was out of the lineup during a game that mattered — and even that day, he pinch hit in the eighth inning and caught in the ninth. The Mets' three days of rest between the NLDS and NLCS will be helpful for their pitching staff and helpful for players like Alvarez, but he was not asking for this respite. 3 Francisco Alvarez has been catching for the Mets during this playoff run.
