12/06/24 | Report: Mets Infielder Brett Baty is Drawing Trade Interest. While much of the focus on the New York Mets' offseason activity has centered on the free-agent market, the trade market may also be heating up, according to a recent report. In an article published Friday by Mike Puma of The New York Post, teams were reported to have inquired about third baseman Brett Baty in trade discussions this winter. Puma clarified that the Mets are not actively shopping Baty, nor are they in a rush to move him, but they are listening to offers and could be open to trading him for pitching, depending on how free agency unfolds. If top free-agent target Juan Soto signs with the Mets, it could increase the likelihood that they do not re-sign Pete Alonso and instead shift Mark Vientos to first base, creating an opportunity for Baty to reclaim the third-base job. Baty, the Mets' top prospect when he made his Major League Baseball debut in 2022, has lit up the minor leagues but struggled mightily in the majors. 11/12/24 | After providing support for Mets off the field, Brett Baty hopes to produce on it in 2025. Brett Baty spent October with the big league team enjoying the postseason experience as a member of the taxi squad. The Mets third baseman donned goggles for champagne celebrations, took ground balls on the field and batting practice as well, knowing that his name probably wouldn't be called but staying prepared in the event the Mets needed him. According to second baseman Jeff McNeil, Baty also gave good hugs to teammates throughout the Mets' postseason run to the NLCS. “I think the biggest thing was just the atmosphere and the crowds and stuff and slowing the game down,” Baty recently told the Daily News.
