Few players have given rise to more trade speculation this offseason than Boston Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas. With rumors that the Sox might move Rafael Devers to first to make room for a new third baseman, Casas' name has been floated in the trade market consistently. "I feel like that's part of the business of baseball is checking in on players, seeing what kind of value you can get back," Casas said at Fenway Fest on Jan. 11. Throughout the 2024 season, the Boston Red Sox had to find ways to replace Triston Casas' production with the starting first baseman missing significant time due to torn cartilage in his rib. For 84 games, the Red Sox called on Dom Smith to do exactly that, and he did the job well, hitting .237 with a .706 OPS, six home runs and 34 RBIs while having to beat out Garrett Cooper for opportunities.
