7/02/24 Horwitz, Springer homer in Blue Jays 7-6 win. TORONTO – Spencer Horwitz had a solo shot and George Springer followed that with a three-run homer as the Toronto Blue Jays held on for a 7-6 win over the Houston Astros on Tuesday. Justin Turner drove in a run with a single in the first inning and Addison Barger doubled home another in the fourth for Toronto (39-46). Jose Berrios (8-6) went five innings, giving up five runs on five hits and two walks, striking out just one. Nate Pearson, Trevor Richards and Chad Green came out of the bullpen to preserve the win, although Richards gave up an unearned run. Spencer Horwitz moved from second base to first, Isiah Kiner-Falefa moved from third to second, and Ernie Clement was added to the lineup at third base. Guerrero was hit on the fingers of his hand by a 96 mph fastball from Yankees right-hander Gerrit Cole in the third inning of Sunday's loss to New York. Guerrero grounded out in the sixth and was replaced by a pinch hitter in the eighth.

Martin, in his first appearance since being reinstated from a stint on the injured list to address anxiety, had the top of the Blue Jays' order, protecting a four-run lead. Martin conceded a Spencer Horwitz leadoff single, but he fanned Justin Turner on a pitch above the zone, then got Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to ground out and Daulton Varsho to fly out, sealing the three-game sweep with a 7-3 victory and extending their winning streak to five.
