11/21/24 Philadelphia Phillies May Hold Back Top Prospect Andrew Painter in 2025. After getting to the playoffs each of the last three seasons, the Philadelphia Phillies want to win - badly. The team got to the World Series in 2022, falling short against the Houston Astros, and then lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks in Game 7 of the NLCS in 2023 before winning the division and going out in the NLDS this past season. The pressure and desire to win in Philly is real, but they apparently won't try to win at the expense of the health of top prospect Andrew Painter. Painter made six shortened starts in the Arizona Fall League and logged 15 2/3 innings — good enough to earn the AFL's top pitcher honor — but he will be limited during his first full season back from Tommy John surgery.

11/13/24 Phillies top prospect gets 100% real on Fall League performance. Top Philadelphia Phillies prospect Andrew Painter was pushing for a spot on the Opening Day roster before being forced to undergo Tommy John surgery in 2023. Over his 15.2 innings in the Arizona Fall League, Painter held a 2.30 ERA – which ranked second-best in the league, .189 batting average against and an 18/4 K/BB ratio. After battling back from a brutal injury, Painter just wanted to get his sea legs underneath him.

11/03/24 Philadelphia Phillies Star Prospect Predicted To Make the Majors in No Time. The Philadelphia Phillies have one of the best farm systems in baseball, but many of their prospects are still a few years away. Just a couple seasons ago, Andrew Painter was the top pitching prospect in baseball before getting injured. Painter was ranked as the number six prospect in baseball by Pipeline going into 2023 before having to undergo Tommy John surgery missing not only that season but the entirety of 2024.

10/29/24 Phillies Superstar Prospect Continues Dominant Arizona Fall League Form. The Philadelphia Phillies made waves when they announced they were sending their superstar pitching prospect, Andrew Painter, to the Arizona Fall League. Not only has he been out of sight, out of mind when it comes to the prospect scene because he underwent Tommy John surgery in 2022 and missed the last two years, but his return to the mound also coincided with Dave Dombrowski stating the Phillies are considering him for the fifth rotation spot at some point next season. While Painter might no longer be considered the top minor league pitcher, he's quickly reminding people just how good he can be during this AFL stint. The 22-year-old continues to impress, this time putting together a dominant outing in his third start where he threw three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit while striking out three batters.

10/27/24 Philadelphia Phillies Boss Hints at Team Moving On From Fan Favorite This Offseason. When free agency gets underway and the offseason officially begins, there are a lot of questions the Philadelphia Phillies will have to answer regarding how they plan on competing for a World Series championship in 2025 and beyond. Unless they get creative, there is a chance a good amount of the roster from this past year's team will be back based on the contract situations the majority of their players have. The Phillies have already discussed some potential changes that could be coming next season, mainly their fifth rotation spot featuring superstar prospect Andrew Painter at some point, but they also acknowledged they will have to use J.T. Realmuto in the catcher spot less. For that to happen, though, Philadelphia needs a reliable backup they can put in who won't be a huge drop off from what Realmuto provides.

10/20/24 Philadelphia Phillies Superstar Prospect Continues to Impress in Arizona Fall League. The Philadelphia Phillies are keeping a keen eye on what is taking place at the Arizona Fall League. Not only are some of their top prospects competing in this event who could be potentially used as trade chips this winter, but they also sent Andrew Painter to the AFL so he could return to the mound in a competitive game for the first time since 2022. Once viewed as the No. 1 pitching prospect in all of minor league baseball, he has been out of sight, out of mind since undergoing Tommy John surgery that caused him to miss the past two seasons. Painter was mentioned as someone who could potentially be the fifth starter next year by Dave Dombrowski, although the executive did state the youngster would be on a pitch limit.

10/17/24 Unheralded Phillies Prospect is Surprisingly Shining in Arizona Fall League. As always, the Philadelphia Phillies have multiple prospects in the Arizona Fall League. This season, top prospects like Andrew Painter and Bryan Rincon are participating. While all eyes are on the big name prospects playing, one of the standout players from the Phillies has not exactly been a standout. Otto Kemp went undrafted out of Point Loma Nazarene in 2022, but was eventually signed by Philadelphia.

10/16/24 Philadelphia Phillies Boss Reveals Future Plan for Andrew Painter. While the Philadelphia Phillies season ending the way it did was a major disappointment, there's reason to be excited about the future of this organization. Philadelphia's top pitching prospect, Andrew Painter, also returned to the mound recently in the Arizona Fall League. Saturday was the first time he's pitched since July of 2023, throwing in two innings and topping out at 100 MPH. Painter wasn't as good as he typically is, allowing three hits, a home run, and two earned runs.

10/15/24 How Did Andrew Painter Do in His Return to the Mound in the Arizona Fall League?. The Philadelphia Phillies are no longer playing baseball this season, but some of their top prospects are in action during the Arizona Fall League. At first, the headliners were shortstop Bryan Rincon and outfielder Gabriel Rincones Jr. who rank No. 10 and No. 11 in their farm system respectively, but at a later date, it was then revealed the Phillies were sending their superstar pitching prospect Andrew Painter to the AFL as well. Painter has not pitched in two years following his Tommy John surgery, so getting him back on the mound in a competitive environment was a huge step for him and the organization as they eye potentially having him on their Major League roster in 2025.

10/08/24 Philadelphia Phillies Boss Explains Decision To Throw Star Prospect During AFL. While all of the attention is on what the Philadelphia Phillies are doing in the playoffs, the organization made some waves when it was revealed they were sending their superstar pitching prospect Andrew Painter to the Arizona Fall League. The 21-year-old hasn't pitched in a competitive game since 2022 after he underwent Tommy John surgery during the summer of last season, and because he's been out of action for so long, there are questions about how he might look when he does return to the mound. Painter was ranked the sixth-best prospect by MLB Pipeline in 2023, but the unfortunate injury has kept him out of action since his breakout campaign earned him the designation of the Phillies' future ace.

10/07/24 Top prospect Andrew Painter to throw at Fall League amid injury recovery. At the Major League level, the Philadelphia Phillies are battling to return to the NLCS for a third consecutive season. Tied 1-1 with the New York Mets in the National League Division Series, the Phillies will resume action Tuesday afternoon in Queens. Meanwhile, they received promising news from their minor league system, where top prospect Andrew Painter has made significant progress. The Phillies had difficulty securing a consistent No. 5 starter during the closing months of the 2024 season, but they hope to resolve that issue next year.

9/27/24 Phillies reportedly shut down idea of including top prospect in trade for frontline starter. The Phillies’ focus is on the postseason for now, but when that’s over — whether it ends in glory or heartbreak — the next big question for them to solve is what to do with the 2025 rotation. One of the pieces to that puzzle, at some point in the season, could be Andrew Painter. […]

9/21/24 How will the postseason bench look; Andrew Painter update, and more Phillies notes. Rob Thomson is a believer in the baseball gods, so he has largely refrained from answering any questions about the playoffs. Thomson has yet to meet with president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski to map out the roster. “Yes [there's value in that],” said Thomson. Who those bench players would be will largely depend on the Phillies' opponent.
