9/23/23 Fry's double in ninth inning sends Guardians to 9-8 win, spoils comeback by AL East-leading Orioles. David Fry delivered a two-run double with one out in the ninth inning as the Cleveland Guardians recovered from closer Emmanuel Clase blowing another save and rallied to beat the AL-East leading Baltimore Orioles 9-8. After Clase allowed the Orioles to take the lead on Aaron Hicks’ two-run, two-out double in the top of the inning, his teammates bailed him out. Andrés Giménez, who made two dazzling defensive plays in the eighth and ninth, doubled and the Orioles intentionally walked Will Brennan to face Fry. Cleveland’s catcher jumped on Cano’s first pitch, hitting it off the wall in left-center. The loss kept Baltimore 1 1/2 games ahead of second-place Tampa Bay. The Rays lost 6-2 to Toronto.

9/06/23 Not just anyone can pitch when Guardians are losing big: Crowquill. David Fry is the pitcher, who is not really a pitcher, that the Guardians call on to keep the bullpen from becoming over extended in a blowout like Mondays 20-6 loss to the Minnesota Twins. Fry pitched four innings, giving up 10 hits, one walk and three home runs while averaging just under 60 mph for just over 60 pitches. Not exactly Cy Young award stats, but just what manager Terry Francona wanted, because Fry's effort help save bullpen arms for chances to help win the next game. In addition to pitching, Fry is a utility man who primarily plays catcher, but also some first base and some outfield, which makes him only slightly more qualified to pitch than somebody off the street.
