7/02/24 Source: Astros recall IF Grae Kessinger, option OF/1B Cooper Hummel. The Houston Astros are recalling infielder Grae Kessinger to the major league roster, a league source told KPRC 2 Sports. Outfielder and 1st baseman Cooper Hummel has been optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land as the corresponding move, per source. Kessinger has hit .283 with a .743 OPS in Triple-A Sugar Land this season. Hummel received 8 at bats in his time with the Astros, and will join the Space Cowboys, where he's among the team's leaders in hitting, batting .301 with a .932 OPS at the Triple-A level.

4/22/24 Former Cub Don Kessinger watching with pride as grandson Grae arrives with Astros at Wrigley Field. After Astros infielder Grae Kessinger found out last June that he was being called up to “the Show” for the first time, one of his first calls was to the grandfather he calls “Pop.” Back in Oxford, Mississippi, Don Kessinger caught a lump in his throat. “He said that he was more excited for me than he was when he got called up [to the Cubs in 1964],” Grae recalled during spring training in West Palm Beach, Florida. Hearing that quote the other day made Pop warm over.
