| 7/11/26 | [NBC Sports Bay Area] - Athletics' Nick Kurtz placed on IL with thumb injury, will miss All-Star Game. Injuries continue to pile on the Athletics. All-Star first baseman was placed on the IL with a right thumb capsule strain, the team announced Saturday. Catcher was recalled to take Kurtz’s roster spot. The 31-year-old makes his second appearance of the 2026 season with the A’s. In 102 games over parts of four MLB seasons with the A’s, Colorado Rockies and Toronto Blue Jays, Serven is slashing .188/247/.292 with six homers and 20 RBI. Kurtz exited Wednesday’s game against the Detroit Tigers early due to an illness after appearing to sustain a hand injury. The 6-foot-5 infielder was just one of the handful of victims of a stomach bug maneuvering the A’s clubhouse. But this IL stint could go back to that hand injury he sustained Wednesday when he collided with Dillon Dingler near first base while attempting to field an errant throw from third baseman Zack Gelof. Kurtz, the reigning American League Rookie of the Year, recently was named an All-Star for the first time in his career and later announced as the starter for the AL side after Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. shared he wasn’t going to participate in this year’s Midsummer Classic. Now Kurtz won’t be able to participate in the Midsummer Classic. Kurtz is batting .270 with 20 home runs and 66 RBI this season. The Athletics, who now have lost six in a row and 10 of their last 11, certainly will miss production from one of their best players. The good news is the All-Star break is right around the corner, and the A’s — like many other teams — certainly could use the extra days to rest and recover. | 7/04/26 | [NBC Sports Bay Area] - Athletics stars Nick Kurtz, Shea Langeliers earn first All-Star Game selections. The Athletics are sending their two most productive offensive players to Philadelphia for the 2026 MLB All-Star Game later this month. First baseman and catcher each earned their first career All-Star Game appearance on Saturday. Langeliers will start at catcher for the American League, beating out Detroit Tigers backstop Dillon Dingler, while Kurtz was selected as a reserve. Toronto Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will start at first base for the AL. Kurtz is following up his breakout Rookie of the Year campaign with another impressive season. In 87 games, he has 20 homers and an MLB-leading 66 RBI entering the final week before the Midsummer Classic. The second-year MLB star earned honors in May after a torrid stretch that saw him hit five homers and lead baseball with 26 RBI. He also was tied for first with a 1.025 OPS, and his 21 runs scored and 34 hits both were tied for second in the majors in May. Kurtz also with a 48-game on-base streak earlier this season. Langeliers, on the other hand, leads all American League catchers with 20 homers, while driving in 44 runs. He left Friday’s game against the Miami Marlins with a left thumb contusion, but it appears the star backstop avoided any serious injury and hopefully will be fine to play in Philadelphia. This is the second consecutive season the Athletics have had two All-Stars after sending shortstop Jacob Wilson and outfielder Brent Rooker last year. First pitch of the 2026 MLB All-Star Game is scheduled for 5 p.m. PT at Citizens Bank Park. Source: https://sportspyder.com/mlb/oakland-athletics/arti... |
