As the Padres have done for most of the season, they played three very close games beating the Phillies 4-2 on Friday night, winning 5-4 on Saturday thanks to Jackson Merrill's two home runs, and then losing 2-1 on Sunday afternoon in a game where they once again failed to capitalize with runners in scoring position, going 1-9. JT Realmuto's 8th-inning RBI-double proved to be the difference in the game. The Source: https://www.audacy.com/kson/sports/san-diego-padre... |
7/13/25 | Padres' Jackson Merrill gets brutally honest on 'playing like s**t'. For the first few months of the 2025 MLB season, it sure looked like Jackson Merrill, the runner-up to Paul Skenes in the 2024 NL Rookie of the Year race, was going to avoid having a sophomore slump entirely. Merrilll, for the first two or so months of the season, was raking for the San Diego Padres, putting up a slash line of .303/.343/.479 — nothing to scoff at even if his power production may be down from last season. Since the 13th of June (one month ago), the Padres center fielder has gone through a brutal stretch at the plate, slashing .169/.293/.273. On the one hand, it's good to see Merrill try to expand his game by taking more pitches and drawing more walks. Source: https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/san-diego-padres/padr... |
7/13/25 | With a rejuvenated Jackson Merrill, Padres pursue sweep of Phillies. Say this much for San Diego Padres center fielder Jackson Merrill. The player who was 3-for-35 in July entering play Saturday hit two homers off National League Cy Young Award candidate Zack Wheeler to propel his team to a 5-4 win over the visiting Philadelphia Phillies. Merrill and San Diego will aim for a series sweep Sunday afternoon in the final game before the All-Star break. Merrill's average plummeted to .258 after an 0-for-3 in Friday night's 4-2 win. 7/12/25 | Jackson Merrill puts Padres on his back with 2nd-home run vs. Phillies. In a season that's tested his mental toughness and mechanics, Jackson Merrill gave San Diego Padres fans a glimmer of hope Tuesday night with not one, but two game-tying home runs against the Philadelphia Phillies. Merrill's second blast, a solo shot to right-center in the bottom of the sixth inning off ace Zack Wheeler, knotted the game at four and reminded everyone why “MerrillMania” was very real in 2024. “Jackson Merrill hits his SECOND game-tying homer of the night!” MLB posted on X, highlighting a rare bright moment in what's been a frustrating sophomore campaign for the 21-year-old. It was vintage Merrill—calm under pressure, balanced in the box, and ready to deliver in the clutch. Source: https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/san-diego-padres/padr... |
