7/02/25 | Tigers Reportedly Among Teams 'Closely Monitoring' Pirates Star. Third base seems like an area the Detroit Tigers will go after ahead of the trade deadline. Jace Jung has not given them the production they were expecting, and that has forced them to utilize Zach McKinstry as more of the everyday guy instead of all around the infield. Matt Vierling's return from the injured list could solve some of the issues the Tigers have had at the position, but landing a true star could be the difference between having a good season and one that takes them deep into October. Plenty of high-end names have been floated as potential targets, with Alex Bregman being the most popular after they went after him this past winter. 6/29/25 | Henning: Jace Jung has new swing as tough year continues in Tigers system. Especially when you are a 24-year-old infielder, a first-round Tigers draft pick from 2021, who last season had a taste of big-league ball in Detroit and who now finds himself at Triple A Toledo, not hitting as he and his bosses envisioned in 2025, all while dealing with (more barbed-wire imagery) the ordeal of a swing-change. “The first two weeks I felt like I was swinging with my eyes closed,” Jung said during a Friday phone conversation. It has to do with lowering Jung's hands – being more direct to pitches. It was explained to him by manager AJ Hinch and the Tigers staff, after a game on May 13, his last of 18 games in 2025 with the Tigers, he needed time at Triple A to alter a swing that in 2025 wasn't working. 5/28/25 | Tigers urged to bring Blue Jays' $33 million 2x All-Star to Detroit. The Detroit Tigers have a lot of moving parts, but it seems to suit them. With a 36-20 record, the Tigers are still a game ahead of the New York Yankees atop the American League's overall standings. One thing the Tigers have lacked, however, is a consistent presence at third base. At times, it's been Báez, McKinstry, Jace Jung, or Andy Ibañez. 5/25/25 | Tigers Frustrating Rookie Continues to Rake in Triple-A After Ugly Start in MLB. The Detroit Tigers have had the luxury this season of owning the best record in baseball for significant portions of the first two months. As a result, Jace Jung was sent back to Triple-A earlier this month for the second time this season. After not breaking camp with the team, having a huge few weeks for Toledo and returning to Detroit the youngster slashed .111/.245/.111 in 18 games with the Tigers before being sent down again. Jung was seen as the team's likely starting third baseman entering camp, but he has been unable to show the consistency required to be an every day Major Leaguer even when given the chance. 5/15/25 | Tigers strongly urged against trade for 8-time All-Star from Cardinals. There seems to be something special happening these days in the Motor City. The Detroit Tigers entered Thursday with the best record in Major League Baseball at 29-15. Despite their hot start, the Tigers could certainly look to make roster upgrades between now and the end of July, when the MLB trade deadline rolls around. The most obvious place to look for change would be third base, purely because Jace Jung, who has 14 starts at the position, was just optioned to Triple-A.
