12/16/24 Former Padres Infielder Wants to Return for 15th MLB Season. The St. Louis Cardinals knew this time last year that their young lineup would need one more strong veteran presence in the clubhouse so they called a franchise legend. Former San Diego Padres infielder Matt Carpenter answered the call and signed a one-year deal worth $740,000 to go back to the city where he starred from 2011-21 before spending the past two seasons with the New York Yankees and Padres. After a tough 2023 season where he batted just .176 in 76 games with San Diego, Carpenter was traded to the Atlanta Braves and later released, setting himself up to return to the Cardinals for the 2024 season.

10/30/24 Cardinals $740K Fan-Favorite Wants To Play One More Year, Per Insider. The St. Louis Cardinals certainly were very active heading into the 2024 Major League Baseball season. St. Louis missed the playoffs for the second straight season, but it isn't from a lack of effort. The Cardinals had a disaster of a 2023 season and responded by completely reloading the starting rotation, bolstering the bullpen, and adding more veteran leadership to the organization. One move the Cardinals made was reuniting with fan-favorite Matt Carpenter.

10/07/24 Cardinals vet Matt Carpenter to take a swing as 'guest analyst' on MLB Network. Another former Cardinal is stepping off the field and into the studio to take a swing at broadcasting with MLB Network. Matt Carpenter, who had an encore season this past summer with the team that drafted and debuted him, will join several shows on MLB Network on Monday and Tuesday as a guest analyst as part of the coverage and preview of playoff games. The network plans to announce his appearances Monday morning. Carpenter will join a network that already features a handful of former Cardinals as on-staff analysts.

9/27/24 Beloved Cardinals All-Star Called Someone Who Shouldn't Return. The 2025 St. Louis Cardinals certainly won't look exactly the same as the 2024 roster. St. Louis -- like every other club in baseball -- will be active this winter. The Cardinals certainly need to take a hard look at the roster after two straight seasons of missing the playoffs. FanSided's Josh Jacobs put together a list of eight players who shouldn't return in 2025 and mentioned fan-favorite Matt Carpenter.

9/19/24 A bow at Busch Stadium? Matt Carpenter 'open' to playing in 2025, enjoys role: Cardinals Extra. At some point this weekend, during the final home series of the regular season, manager Oliver Marmol intends to find a spot for Matt Carpenter to get his bow at Busch Stadium similar to the moments orchestrated in recent seasons for Yadier Molina, Albert Pujols and Adam Wainwright. Carpenter, now 38, would like to play in 2025 and told the Post-Dispatch on Thursday that he enjoyed the part-time player and full-time mentor role the Cardinals cast him in for his return to the organization this season.
