The pair combined to help San Francisco win world titles in 2012 and 2014. Crawford recently announced his retirement in November and will be honored in April. At Oracle Park, one of the best moments is when a Giants player hits a “splash hit,” which is a home run into McCovey Cove, which is behind the right-field seats. The team was headed for Tampa Bay, with a sale seeming so likely that players started flipping through Florida real estate brochures late in the season and fans -- including a young Brandon Crawford -- showed up to Candlestick Park in September just to say goodbye. Peter Magowan's new ownership group saved the day, and eight years later the Giants moved into a spectacular new ballpark, one they now have called home for 25 seasons. Now, they've dropped their first post-All-Star break home series to the Washington Nationals. Cardinals pitchers allowed 10 runs for the second consecutive game, including a seven-run sixth inning yielded by the relief corps, in a 14-3 loss to the Nationals in front of an announced crowd of 39,372 in the second game of a three-game series at a soggy Busch Stadium on Saturday night. On May 28, 2001, Paul Lo Duca had a day to remember for the Los Angeles Dodgers as he went 6-for-6 in their 11-10 victory against the Colorado Rockies in 11 innings at Dodger Stadium. Lo Duca had five singles and a three-run home run while adding three runs scored and four RBI. The record has since been broken by San Francisco Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford, who went 7-for-8 in a 14-inning game against the Miami Marlins on Aug. 8, 2016. Brandon Crawford has been to the Coliseum plenty of times, but the vibe was decidedly different Monday night for the St. Louis Cardinals shortstop. It's not certain that Crawford will play at all in the series, given his job as a backup shortstop and mentor for starter Maysn Winn. “It's a tough role, not playing every day and not getting your timing going with the bat,” Crawford said in the visiting dugout a few hours before the game. The right-hander caught Brandon Crawford looking on a full count with the bases loaded in the second and then got a grounder to escape the jam. Gallen also whiffed Ivan Herrera on a 3-2 curve in the fourth before retiring Crawford on a popup. St. Louis starter Miles Mikolas faced the minimum through four innings but didn't finish the fifth.
