3/01/24 Count Xander Bogaerts among those surprised by Red Sox' slow offseason. Expectations were high for the Red Sox this offseason, especially with a new chief baseball officer in Craig Breslow taking the reins and team chairman Tom Werner pledging in November that the franchise was going to go “full throttle” after a third last-place finish in the past four seasons.

2/28/24 Is Xander Bogaerts surprised by the Red Sox' approach? 'Yeah, I am'. Xander Bogaerts sat comfortably at a picnic table in among the baseball activities at Padres camp, dressed ready to play. With a full season in San Diego under his belt, the idea of wearing the red and white of the Red Sox seems like more and more of a foreign concept with each passing day. "Yeah, I am," Bogaerts said on the Baseball Isn't Boring podcast when asked if he was surprised at the Red Sox' seemingly passive offseason approach. 2/26/24 1 bonkers trade Padres must make before 2024 season. The San Diego Padres went all in for a championship in 2023, committing $255 million to their payroll. The Padres have several holes on their roster and their limited financial flexibility will make it difficult to improve the roster. Xander Bogaerts is a talented player, but his contract represents one of the worst values in the league. Moving Bogaerts would give the team breathing room to address their rotation.

Author: Maren Angus-Coombs Publish date: Feb 25, 2024 9:30 PM EST Xander Bogaerts had every intention of being the starting shortstop coming into camp this season. After all, the San Diego Padres hadn't given him any inclination that he wouldn't be. According to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, the Padres didn't tell him or Gold Glove utility infielder Ha-Seong Kim that they were switching positions until they arrived in Peoria. The Padres never gave Xander Bogaerts a heads up that he was switching from shortstop to second base

Padres Postgame: San Diego Loses Shootout Against Brewers, Dropping To 0-3 The Padres drop to 0-3 to start their spring games. Author: Matt Levine Publish date: Feb 24, 2024 6:30 PM EST The San Diego Padres dropped their third straight game to open Spring Training, this time at the hands of the Milwaukee Brewers. The final score was 11-7 from the Peoria Sports Complex. San Diego trailed for the majority of the game and couldn't find the big hit to put them in front. The offense finally came alive after two poor performances against the Dodgers, but it wasn't enough. The Padres key players didn't muster much, except for Xander Bogaerts going 1-2. Third baseman Manny Machado also
