Julio Rodriguez drove in a pair of runs, including a tiebreaking sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning, and the Seattle Mariners held on for a 6-5 win over the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night in Minneapolis. Donovan Solano also drove in two runs for Seattle, which won its third game in a row. Cal Raleigh went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI but did not homer for the first time in five games. 6/30/25 | 3 great – and surprising – signs from Seattle Mariners bats. In cleaning out the notebook following a long Seattle Mariners road trip, there were three surprising and positive signs worth shining a light on from the lineup. The answer is Donovan Solano. Of course Raleigh has over twice the plate appearances as Solano and over double the WAR, but getting this kind of performance from a bench/platoon player is obviously helping the offense. 6/23/25 | Donovan Solano's resurgence helps Seattle Mariners in 2 ways. This is the version of Donovan Solano the Seattle Mariners were patiently waiting for. The first baseman had another big day at the plate for the M's in their 14-6 win over the Chicago Cubs on Sunday. Source: https://sports.mynorthwest.com/mlb/seattle-mariner... |
6/22/25 | Veteran Seattle Infielder Put Together an Incredible Showing in Recent Series. A Seattle Mariners veteran has been one of the team's best hitters in June after being on the of the club's worst in April and May. In a 14-6 Mariners win against the Chicago Cubs on Sunday, veteran first baseman Donovan Solano went 3-for-5 with two runs, two home runs and a game-high five RBIs. The 37-year-old infielder hit .643 (9-for-14) with two runs, two homers and eight RBIs across the series. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/mariners/news/veteran-seatt... |
6/11/25 | 'Donnie Barrels' lives: Solano hits 1st Seattle Mariners HR. Earlier in his career, Donovan Solano earned the nickname “Donnie Barrels” for his proficiency at the plate. On Wednesday afternoon, however, “Donnie Barrels” reappeared. The home run, which pushed the Mariners' lead to 2-0, was his first in 91 plate appearances this year with Seattle. While Solano has struggled in a platoon role this season, mainly seeing action at first base against left-handed pitching, he has been quietly picking up steam in recent weeks. 5/16/25 | ESPN MLB Insider Discusses Struggling Donovan Solano and His Future with Seattle Mariners. Signed to a $3.5 million deal this offseason, Donovan Solano has really struggled for the Seattle Mariners in 2025. Hitting just .138 through 58 at-bats, Solano, brought in to hit lefties, just hasn't gotten going. A 12-year veteran of the Miami Marlins, New York Yankees, San Francisco Giants, Cincinnati Reds, Minnesota Twins and San Diego Padres, he won a Silver Slugger Award in 2020. 3/26/25 | If Mariners ownership isn't going to spend money on the team, why should you?. For the first 70 days of Major League Baseball's recent free agent signing period, if you'd bought a Mariners hat for $20, you would've spent more money on Seattle's baseball team than its owners shelled out in guaranteed major league contracts. In the end, the Mariners signed a grand total of one (1!) free agent from outside the organization this year to a big league deal — inking a one-year, $3.5 million contract with 37-year-old replacement-level infielder Donovan Solano. Despite having baseball's best pitching staff and young stars like Julio Rodriguez and Cal Raleigh on incredibly team-friendly contracts, the Mariners head into MLB's opening day on March 27 as a franchise that refuses to make even modest investments toward making the team a serious contender. 3/05/25 | TEREN'S TAKE: Ryan Bliss Should be Seattle Mariners Starting Second Baseman. The Seattle Mariners waited months into the offseason to find players for 2025 to man the open spots in their infield. The Mariners signed Donovan Solano to platoon at first base and Jorge Polanco to play third. Various reports and comments from Mariners executives have indicated that Dylan Moore would be penciled in as the starter when spring training began. Ryan Bliss, Leo Rivas and Cole Young were also expected to factor into the competition. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/mariners/news/ryan-bliss-sh... |
2/27/25 | Why Mitch Garver could still boost Seattle Mariners in '25. The Seattle Mariners' offensive additions this offseason were limited, with veteran infielder Donovan Solano representing the lone addition of a hitter in free agency on a major league deal by Seattle. A year ago, though, the Mariners took a swing in free agency on a different veteran bat – one with much more power and even a Silver Slugger in his trophy case: Mitch Garver. The M's brought Garver in to serve as their primary designated hitter, but he struggled out of the gate and never fully recovered. Source: https://sports.mynorthwest.com/wyman-and-bob/seatt... |
2/23/25 | Donovan Solano arrives as Seattle Mariners' veteran presence. First days with a new club can be a whirlwind, but Donovan Solano has had experience in that department. “Maybe a week,” Solano answered Sunday when asked how long he thought he would be up to camp speed and ready for games. A veteran of 11 years in the big leagues and now on his seventh team, he has been around and done this before. It was a safe bet he would know people in his new clubhouse, and that he did having been a teammate of Luis Castillo while with the Reds, Jorge Polanco in Minnesota, and even Ichiro while he was with the Marlins. 2/22/25 | Seattle Mariners Veteran Infielder Donovan Solano Reports to Spring Training. The Seattle Mariners began their spring training games on Feb. 21. It was a 5-2 loss against the San Diego Padres. Many of the Mariners expected major league starters and prospects saw the field in the loss. Donovan Solano, who the Mariners signed to a one-year, $3.5 million deal in January, didn't report with the rest of the position players to spring training earlier in the week. 2/05/25 | Seattle Mariners Outfielder Randy Arozarena Shared Video of Offseason Work. The Seattle Mariners will be under a lot of scrutiny in 2025. The Mariners made just two moves that will likely factor into the 26-man roster: respective one-year deals with infielders Donovan Solano and Jorge Polanco. The Mariners acquired outfielder Randy Arozarena in a deal with the Tampa Bay Rays on July 26 and the former American League Championship MVP quickly adapted and became the club's starting left fielder. 2/02/25 | Seattle Mariners Rank Ridiculously Low on This List of Money Spent in Last Two Years. It's been a frustrating offseason for Seattle Mariners fans who want to see their team make moves that greatly impact the roster. Thus far, the M's have only made two free agent additions this offseason: One-year pacts with Donovan Solano and Jorge Polanco. In the last two years, the Mariners have signed Mitch Garver to a two-year, $22 million deal, Solano and Polanco. It should be noted that the Mariners have made some additional moves to take on salary in the last two years (acquiring Mitch Haniger, Randy Arozarena and Polanco the first time), though it's come via trade. 1/29/25 | Seattle Mariners Have Had Interest in Multi-Time Platinum Glove Winner Nolan Arenado. The Seattle Mariners are still looking to find solutions to their infield woes with two weeks left until pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training. The Mariners had three holes in the infield when the offseason began, and filled one of those openings when they signed 13-year veteran Donovan Solano to a one-year, $3.5 million deal. There's been speculation where Seattle could look to find another infielder, whether it be the trade market or in free agency. In an appearance on MLB Network, Morosi said that Seattle was intrigued by multi-time Platinum Glove winner and All-Star Nolan Arenado. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/mariners/news/seattle-marin... |
1/28/25 | ANALYSIS: Can Cole Young Take Over Second Base Spot in Spring Training?. The Seattle Mariners entered the offseason with pressing needs at first, second and third base. With a little over two weeks until pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training in Peoria, Ariz., the only move the Mariners have made so far is a one-year deal with veteran infielder Donovan Solano. The offseason has been unusually slow for Seattle and President of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto. The organization's farm system has had the opposite fortunes of the major league team. 1/24/25 | Seattle Mariners Reportedly Inquired About Former National League MVP. The Seattle Mariners have been trying to find ways to add to their major league roster throughout the entire offseason. The Mariners made the first "big" move of the offseason when they signed versatile veteran infielder Donovan Solano to a one-year, $3.5 million contract on Jan. 13. There's been several rumors over the past several months of Seattle engaging in trade talks and negotiating with several free agents. A recent article from MLB.com's Mariners beat writer Daniel Kramer mentioned one of the players the organization kicked the tires on was a former National League MVP. 1/17/25 | Seattle Mariners Outright Left-Handed Pitcher to Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers. The Seattle Mariners have started to make their first series of transactions of the offseason after they signed their first starting-caliber bat of the offseason. The Mariners signed veteran infielder Donovan Solano for one year, $3.5 million. To make room for Solano on the 40-man roster, Seattle designated left-handed reliever Austin Kitchen for assignment. The Mariners didn't wait the full seven days to determine what to do with Kitchen and outrighted him to the organization's Triple-A affiliate, the Tacoma Rainiers. 1/16/25 | Seattle Mariners Could be Involved in Market For Slugging First Baseman Pete Alonso. The Seattle Mariners made their first "big" move of the offseason when they signed veteran infielder Donovan Solano to a one-year, $3.5 million contract. The New York Mets and first baseman Pete Alonso have been engaged in contract discussions since the club won the Juan Soto sweepstakes. Alonso has spent his entire six-year career with the Mets and hit at least 34 home runs all those years except for the COVID-19-shortened 2020 season.
