Despite winning the NL East and finishing with the second-best record in baseball behind the World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers, the Phillies were bounced from the postseason for the third year in a row. While many players are to blame for Philadelphia's disappointing early exit, Zack Wheeler isn't one of them. Philadelphia Phillies ace Zack Wheeler was named a finalist for the NL Cy Young Award on Monday night along with Paul Skenes of the Pirates and Chris Sale of the Braves. The Phillies season ended short in the playoffs in the NLDS to the New York Mets, but Wheeler finished 2024 by posting some of the best numbers of his career at 34 years old. In 32 regular season games, Wheeler went 16-7 in 2024 and recorded a career-best 2.57 ERA, which ranked second in the NL only behind Sale. After being one of the best teams throughout the regular season, they fell apart in the NLDS against the New York Mets, losing in four games. 10/07/24	Nick Castellanos Is Exactly What Philadelphia Phillies Fans Want From Their Athletes. It might have just been the bottom of the sixth inning during Game 2 in a best-of-five series, but boy did it feel like every Philadelphia Phillies fan was scribbling words for the eulogy they were about to deliver for their team. Citizens Bank Park was lifeless, stunned into silence after fans had witnessed the Phillies squander one of the best playoff pitching performances of the last five years from Zack Wheeler in Game 1, and watching the offense not put up runs the next day. Virtually all 43,000 people in attendance had the same frustrated feeling, and after watching five strikeouts and the team chasing pitches once again, some people let it out on Nick Castellanos. In the fourth inning, the slugger waived and missed at two sliders in the dirt to set up an 0-2 count that caused some boos to rain down upon him.
