6/16/25 Former Mets pitcher-turned-NL ace plots retirement in midst of peak. Despite still dominating as the ace of the Philadelphia Phillies, Zack Wheeler knows when he will be done with baseball. According to Matt Gelb of The Athletic, the 35-year-old will retire after the 2027 season, when his $126 million contract expires. This season, Wheeler has a 2.76 ERA with 110 strikeouts over 88 innings. Wheeler was asked if he would reconsider his retirement if he kept pitching at a high level.

6/15/25 Zack Wheeler Has Already Reportedly Made Major Decision on His Future. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, Philadelphia Phillies' ace Zack Wheeler has no desire to pitch into his 40s like Charlie Morton or Justin Verlander. Kudos to Phillies ace Zack Wheeler, who is already telling everyone that he plans to retire after the 2027 season to spend time with his family. One of the best pitchers in the league, he finished second in the National League Cy Young voting in 2024. A two-time All-Star, Wheeler seems a lock for his third trip to the Midsummer Classic.

6/14/25 Phillies Ace Sets Alarmingly Close Retirement Date As Career Winds Down. The Philadelphia Phillies have been able to enjoy having the likes of Zack Wheeler in their starting rotation for years now, but it looks as though they may need to start planning for what's next. In a recent interview with Matt Gelb of The Athletic (subscription required), Wheeler set a retirement date that is coming soon; when his contract ends after the 2027 campaign. "I mean, he can say all he wants,” said his less assured teammate J.T. Realmuto.

6/13/25 Phillies Zack Wheeler makes 'unequivocal' retirement decision. The Philadelphia Phillies have one of the best starting pitchers in Major League Baseball in two-time All-Star Zack Wheeler, but they likely won't have him much longer. Wheeler, 35, is an 11-year veteran, spending his first five seasons with the New York Mets before joining the Phillies. In 13 starts this season, Wheeler is 6-2 with a 2.85 ERA and 101 strikeouts across 82 innings pitched.

6/09/25 Minnesota Twins Weren't Fans of A's Sacramento Ballpark. It appears as though opposing players are beginning to speak out about the playing conditions at Sutter Health Park. In a recent homestand, it was Philadelphia Phillies ace Zack Wheeler, who said, "the mound was terrible." This past homestand, it was multiple members of the Minnesota Twins that had gripes of their own. Correa also told The Athletic (not the A's longform name, the publication), "It's the worst box I've ever stepped in."

6/07/25 Phillies May Have Albatross Contract Developing on Pitching Staff. Coming into the 2025 MLB regular season, the Philadelphia Phillies were thought to have the best starting rotation by many people in the baseball world. Through their first 62 games of the season, they have proven those believers to be correct. Zack Wheeler once again looks like a Cy Young contender in the National League. Prior to his last two starts, Jesus Luzardo did as well, but he got lit up by the Minnesota Twins and Toronto Blue Jays, surrendering 20 earned runs in 5.2 innings.

6/03/25 Phillies Shake Up Rotation With Zack Wheeler No Longer Starting Tuesday. Zack Wheeler was slated to get the ball for the Philadelphia Phillies road opener against the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday. According to Corey Seidman of NBC Sports Philadelphia, the superstar ace has been moved out of the rotation during this series since he and his wife, Dominique, are expecting their fourth child. Now, Cristopher Sanchez is scheduled to get the ball to begin the three-game set, with Mick Abel slated to make his second start of his Major League career on Wednesday and Jesus Luzardo getting the ball for the finale. Not having Wheeler in this matchup makes winning more difficult, especially since the Blue Jays have been dominant at home in the early going of the season with the second-most runs scored when they play in the Rogers Centre.

6/02/25 Why Phillies are 'skipping' Zack Wheeler in starting rotation. The Philadelphia Phillies are reportedly “skipping” Zack Wheeler's spot in the starting rotation since his wife is “due any day,” Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. “Phillies are adjusting their rotation at Toronto this week; they're skipping Zack Wheeler for now because his wife is due any day,” Gelb wrote on X, formerly Twitter. Gelb also reports that with Wheeler's turn in the rotation being skipped this week, Philadelphia will start Cristopher Sanchez on Tuesday, Mick Abel on Wednesday and Jesus Luzardo on Thursday against the Toronto Blue Jays.

5/29/25 Phillies Top Prospect Makes Sizable Jump in Recently Updated Rankings. The Philadelphia Phillies already possess arguably the best starting rotation in baseball. Zack Wheeler and Jesus Luzardo are performing at Cy Young-caliber levels, anchoring the staff. Cristopher Sanchez has shown improvements upon the All-Star campaign he put together in 2024. Taijuan Walker has been excellent in a bounce back campaign, helping compensate for Ranger Suarez and Aaron Nola both spending time on the injured list.

5/28/25 Phillies' Zack Wheeler looks to atone for lone misstep vs. Braves. Zack Wheeler is enjoying another stellar season, although his worst start of the campaign came last month against the Atlanta Braves. Wheeler gets another shot at the Braves on Wednesday when the Phillies' ace takes the ball in the middle contest of a three-game set in Philadelphia. Wheeler (6-1, 2.42 ERA) enters this matchup with a streak of 22 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings, having not allowed a run in any of his past three starts. The recent string of zeros has been a welcome sight for Wheeler, who gave up a season-high five runs in a season-low 5 1/3 innings on April 8 in a 7-5 loss to the Braves.

5/26/25 Philadelphia Phillies Ace Doesn't Hold Back When Speaking of A's Sacramento Ballpark. There has been a lot of work done to make Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento as big-league ready as it can be for the Athletics three or more year stay at the Triple-A facility. Plenty of players have had complaints since the A's started playing there this season, with Philadelphia Phillies ace Zack Wheeler recently joining the chorus after his most recent outing.
