5/07/25 $1.4 Million Veteran Has Been Royals' 'Most Impactful' Addition, MLB Writer Declares. The Kansas City Royals didn't make the splashiest moves this offseason, but one they made right before Opening Day sure looks to be paying off. Less than a week before Opening Day, the Royals acquired journeyman outfielder Mark Canha from the Milwaukee Brewers for a player to be named later. Canha had previously signed a minor-league deal with Milwaukee in spring training, and is making only $1.4 million on the Royals this season. Canha's career track record would have suggested that he'd get better opportunities, but he was coming off a down year and he's 36, so in a year where the market was tough for older free agents, he didn't get the benefit of the doubt.

Espinal, 19, has a 3.95 career minor-league ERA in three seasons pitching in the Dominican Summer League.

4/18/25 Royals Predicted To Send Down Struggling Outfielder When Mark Canha Returns. The Kansas City Royals are off to a bad start in 2025. After winning 86 games and securing the second American League Wild Card spot last year, Kansas City is 8-12 to start. Fortunately, while they sit in third place in the AL Central, they are only 3 1/2 games back of the first place Detroit Tigers. The offense has been what is dragging the Royals down thus far, and they'll need to get it going to avoid falling out of contention.

4/09/25 Royals place OF/1B Mark Canha (left abductor) on 10-day IL. The Kansas City Royals placed outfielder/first baseman Mark Canha on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday because of a left abductor strain. In a corresponding move, the Royals recalled outfielder Drew Waters from Triple-A Omaha. Canha left Tuesday's home game against the Minnesota Twins in the sixth inning with left hip soreness after crashing into the left-field wall while attempting to catch Harrison Bader's drive in the fifth. Canha held Bader to an RBI single as the Royals won 2-1. Kansas City had acquired Canha on March 22 in a trade with Milwaukee for a player to be named later or cash. The Brewers had signed him as a free agent to a minor league contract on Feb. 24. Canha, 36, reportedly
