12/06/24 | Diamondbacks unlikely to sign both Christian Walker, Joc Pederson. It is apparent the Arizona Diamondbacks' lineup will look a bit differently next season. Arizona Sports' John Gambadoro said on Thursday's Burns & Gambo there is no chance the D-backs re-sign both free agents Christian Walker and Joc Pederson. Walker declined Arizona's qualifying offer last month — the D-backs will receive a draft pick if he signs elsewhere — and he entered free agency ahead of his age 34 season with his best opportunity to cash in. 12/04/24 | San Francisco Giants Could Steal Christian Walker From Division Rival. After winning three World Series titles in five years to begin the 2010s, there has been a severe drop off and the team has qualified for the playoffs just twice in the decade since their last championship. In an effort to reinvigorate the organization, Buster Posey takes over as president of baseball operations and faces the monumental task of getting the team back to relevance. The first step towards accomplishing that task is conquering the teams in their own division, and while the Dodgers aren't going anywhere anytime soon, one of the teams the Giants have also finished consistently behind recently is the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Diamondbacks reached the World Series in 2023 after finishing second in the division and claiming the final wild card berth. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/giants/san-francisco-giants... |
12/03/24 | Could Diamondbacks be in the market for 8-time All-Star?. The Arizona Diamondbacks are on the verge of losing Christian Walker, but could they aim to fill his spot with a five-time Silver Slugger? Stuck with a bloated payroll, seemingly adrift, and in search of an identity, the Cardinals have indicated that the organization will engage in a full-blown "reboot," according to USA Today's Bob Nightengale. While no-trade clauses have so far thwarted St. Louis' longing to deal away catcher Willson Contreras and pitcher Sonny Gray, the team's highest-paid star has remained open to a move — and is reportedly open to switching positions to make it happen. 12/02/24 | Could the Diamondbacks be reuniting with 4-time Gold Glover?. The Arizona Diamondbacks need some pop and are speculated to be priming for a reunion with an old fan favorite this winter. Arizona is facing the loss of first baseman Christian Walker and the 95 home runs he has hit over the past three seasons. FanGraphs has Pavin Smith currently penciled in to be the team's starter at the position should the three-time Gold Glover leave Phoenix. Smith doesn't project to the type of power numbers provided by Walker, meaning the Snakes will need to make up that production elsewhere. 12/01/24 | Yankees urged to poach $66 million Diamondbacks star and retain Juan Soto. The Arizona Diamondbacks missed the postseason after reaching the World Series in 2023. While listing top landing spots for first baseman Christian Walker, Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller urged the New York Yankees to sign the Diamondbacks star regardless of what happens with Juan Soto. USA Today's Bob Nightengale reported that the Yankees' backup plan if Soto leaves is to use the money they saved on Walker and other free agents.
